Default Voynov signs 6 year, 25 million contract

    Per TSN.
For Cap-leave GMs, I don't think this is a terrible deal. Our league keeps players until the end of their contract and I have little doubt that Voynov will be worth more than 4 million in a few years.

If you consider the deal Josi just signed this must be considered a steal. Voynov has done and proven a million times more then him and is just plan and simply more talented. He was better then Doughty in the playoffs this year and Doughty is my favorite dman in the league (while tied with Subban).. I said it a couple months ago and got laughed at but as far as I'm concerned he is one of the top 20 defenseman in the league.

Nobody ever questioned his ability and he couldn't be more deserving of this new deal.

The strides he has made since turning pro...wow.

Reminds me of Kimmo Timonen with a little more offensive flare.

That's an excellent comparison! Never crossed my mind.

I would not say that Voynov's cap hit is good in "fantasy leagues".
In most fantasy leagues, you have to consider that you can get 50-60pts from a $4m forward, so why roster a $4m defenseman that is likely to only get about 40pts???

Also, with many leagues including blocks & hits these days, it is often wiser to simply scoop up the next young defensemen than fills those categories.
A guy like Brendan Dillon would have very solid fantasy value at only $1m.
    That's the way to go.
Salary cap leagues, IMO, are won by spending your money on forwards & goalies.
Defensemen should be penny-players ($1m guys that fill whatever category you can get... like a $1.5m Jay Harrison or Adam McQuaid on defense).

    In summary:
In points leagues, a 40pt defenseman (Voynov) at $4m is not a great deal.
In hits/blocks leagues, most 40pt defenseman at $4m is not a great deal.

Don't get me wrong... relative to other defenseman and real NHL value, it's a good contract.
But I just don't think it makes Voynov a worthy "fantasy" investment in a salary cap pool. (Or any similar Voynov-like $4m defenseman).

True...$4M is too much for a fantasy d-man.

Fortunately our league uses custom contracts and I got him for $1.4M
