There are plenty of Flyers bloggers I've read who back up that assessment. There are some odd characters in sports but too many dull ones and you'll never hear the media call them out for the same dry interviews over and over.

If the reporters would stick to the facts and let bygones be bygones the relationship between Bryz and the media would be much different. I think he doesn't mind the healthy criticisms for poor play, but even at times where he was one of the only guys playing well on the team there were irrelevant stories being printed about him being a "weirdo".

From what I remember seeing years ago the reporters in Phoenix enjoyed joking around with him, but in Philly at times it was as if the old boys club didn't like his kind and made sure he knew. Tough crowd.

In the end he'll still be very well compensated for his troubles.

    Amen.

Buying out Briere certainly doesn't help our identity crisis either.

What is happening with Pronger's contract?? Wouldn't it be wise to buy him out?? Or do they get some sort of relief because he is injured??

    Same with Savard in Boston??

Yes and no. Their cap hits stay on the books and are counted against the salary cap but teams can put them on LTIR and exceed the cap by the amount of their cap hits.

Thanks Carcillo.. I'm pretty good when it comes to talking about anything hockey, except when it comes to the topic of salary cap issues.. I definitely need to do some reading on that..

and its official, Briere will be bought out.

Chris Johnston ‏@reporterchris 10m The #flyers are the first NHL team to confirm a compliance buyout. No surprise, but Danny Briere will be a free agent this summer.

If only this were a fantasy world, where teams could resign players right after they exercise the buyout.

Hah. Behind doors deal with Danny to let him rest up until the playoffs and then sign him for a 1/2 million.

This is pretty shitty for the Flyers, but in the end - 6.5M cap hit hurts for Briere's production

Its the only business decision that can be made. I'm a fan of Briere, especially with his playoff heroics. We cannot afford the cap hit though.

It sucks for Briere, but you can't feel too bad for him. He's going to get a real nice golden handshake. Plus, he is now UFA and free to sign wherever he pleases. He also has the luxury of not having to worry if the team can afford him. He is 35 years old and is already gonna collect a salary from the Flyers. He can quite afford to sign a 4 year/12m deal with another team. He'll be handsomely remunerated in any event.
