    Default Pageau or Flynn

Would you trade Brian Flynn straight up for Pageau in a points only league?

Both look to be in the NHL to stay. I'm looking at who will put up the most points in a year from now and also long term upside.
    Thanks

Both are impressive but both have their question marks. Pageau's size is a concern though he has proved it not to be a problem at every level. His scoring needs to continue or he could be more of a high tier bottom 6 energy player.

Flynn's scoring has been decent but he has several years on Pageau. At this point I am more impressed by Pageau but both are dark horse keeper candidates. I like Pageau's probablility to become a main stay top 6 more so than Flynn who is more probable a career bottom 6er

Well put - I agree with this. You also have to look at depth charts - where does Flynn slot in? Although I think the Sabres will be crazy busy this summer so it is probably a waste of time to try and put some line combos together.

i take Pageau here. Buffalo looks like its headed for a rebuild, and OTT is well past its "rebuild" mode IMO. JGP will have the better points year, even in his 3C spot.

Although Pageau is a bit more explosive and probably has more upside to his game, he also has a lot more risk. I think I take Flynn here. Keep in mind Flynn centered Nyquist and Spencer Abbott to back to back Hobey nominations... There is some offensive ability in Flynn's game as well.

I'd rather have Pageau, but I'm not high on either.

I own Flynn in a couple leagues and would rather have Pageau if given the choice. I don't see Flynn as having top 6 potential. Pageau is the much bigger risk but given the choice I will almost always take the risk over a bottom 6 player, they are a dime a dozen, while top 6 guys are hard to find.

Would love to hear why you are not high on either.

I should add that this is for a 26 man roster, 30 team dynasty league (points only) so we have to dig to hopefully find points.
Guys like Jamie McGinn and Mason Raymond are counters.

Ah, 30 team dynasty is a little different story. But, as for why I'm not as high as others on those two:

Pageau - watched a good amount of him in the Q, and while he's got some skill I haven't been over-whelmed by his "upside". I do think he's a likely third-line fixture for the next 10 years, but I'd put his points upside at around 45 max in the NHL. He's a little too much of a tweener, and while he will play a good all-around game, but nothing in his offensive game has stood out to me. I personally peg him for around 30-35 points a year for the next three seasons.

Flynn - I think he had a great breakout last year, I do, but I'm not buying him. I think his perceived value is higher now with his "upside" projection then his actual value will be in a year or two. I think people forget he's 24, not a 20/21 year old, and to me he just looks like a bottom 6 forward who's upside I think is only 40 points. I didn't see enough this year to think his upside is bigger, and I think his shooting percentage helped his numbers more then it will next year. His one advantage, though, is that the Sabres have no one at RW after Drew Stafford and Patrick Kaleta. Still, I think he's also less of a surething to be an NHLer as long a Pageau, and I think Pageau will likely out-point him.

Really weird for me to write all that, since I typically only write about players I like.

Pageau for me. Pageau size is a bit of a concern but in his 1st pro year he impress enough to be a key member of the team in the playoff. He needs to bulk up but I think he can be a good 2nd line center.

I dont see either as a top 6 forward in the league. I see both as a 3rd line skaters at best.

I would love to see Pageau excel in the league simply due to his small stature but realistically I think Flynn is a better fit in the league long term.

    I would go with Flynn.

Just to make it clear I'm talking about a 3-5YP. I'm not seeing him next year as a 2nd line center with Ottawa.
