PHI considered favourite for Bernier if that's what Flyers want to do, but they have told LA Couturier not available...
I think the deal ends up being Matt Read and a 2nd rounder.

I think so too. Read is a perfect Suter type player.he has speed and offense but is very responsible in his own end. He comes at a cap friendly number for another year and shouldn't take to much more to resign him.

Some may baulk at that return by those that undervalue Read but he is a quality player.

Read is a good player and would be a super fit on the Kings with his hands and speed.

I think everyone made out ok here. Frattin will help the Kings at forward, Scrivens will be a serviceable back up and the pick helps their depth. Toronto got the G they wanted without hurting themselves on the blue line, win-win.

Initially I was oposed to the idea of a trade for Bernier as I did not see the goalie position as one of great need.

On reflection I have warmed up to the deal. The price was a bunch of spare parts that has no significant negative impact on the team overall. I like Frattin but the chances of Frattin becoming a solid top six player was limited at best. He was clearly expendable. This now opens a clear spot on right wing for Nonis to fill presumably with David Clarkson being the prime target. If Nonis can land Clarkson that would be a major upgrade on right wing. Also likely to be available on the RW are Iginla and Horton but at 28 Clarkson has to be the first choice.

It is also possible that Nonis will now flip Reimer for a solid return. The team does have McIntyre signed and he would be a solid backup for Bernier if Reimer is moved. If not Carlyle will have a solid tandum to work with.

So all round I have come around to seing this as a solid move for the leafs but perhaps not for Reimer.

cant figure out if i like this as a bernier owner

flyers, wild and isles seemed like much better paths to clear-cut starter, though all 4 teams are arguably equally good i guess ...all in the bottom half in team GA this season (Minny slightly ahead of TO)

i notice the year before the Leafs were 2nd to last in GA ..why the improvement? Just getting better overall? Not b/c of using humps like M Kosta all year...

not crazy about the leafs D for my bernier hopes...
