Thread: The Kings and Bernier

Sure, it's quite possible for the Kings to trade elsewhere if the Flyers (or anybody else, for that matter) sit on their hands in hopes of offer sheeting Bernier, but I was just thinking that the offer sheet looming on the horizon might keep the asking price down a bit.

EDIT: Just realized I somehow deleted half of the sentence, lol.

I'm sure Holmgren and Lombardi have discussed this. If the Flyers sheet Bernier the Kings lose all leverage, especially with hopes of resigning Voynov. I think a trade will be worked out before it gets to that point.

Oh for sure, as solid of a goalie prospect as Bernier is the return will likely be fair with that threat out there.

I could be wrong here but I don't think Read and a throw in pick nearly gets it done. LA is going to want a better player or a better pick I would think. Bernier's pedigree is on a different level then Bishopss and they have less need to move Him imho.

(slang, idiomatic) 1. A person who habitually corrects or criticizes the language usage of others, especially in situations where it is unnecessary, e.g. an informal conversation.

I think Read is a better 2 way player and more versatile than Conacher though.

There may be a bit of a bidding war for him between a few teams but I don't think it gets too out of control given the amount of goalies available this offseason.

The 5 teams I believe are in the mix, to varying degrees, on Jonathan Bernier: Florida, Minny, Philly, Tor and NYI...

No way does a team like LA trade Bernier for Read.. LA is alot smarter then that.. They know how many teams out there are looking for a goalie, and as of right now Bernier is one of the best available.. The Islanders and Flyers are going to need to put a package together here soon or someone else might just scoop in and grab Bernier themselves.. Toronto, NJ, and Minnesota would be happy to acquire him..

I don't get the Florida rumors?? But if they did get him, then I guess they would have a huge trading chip aswell..

God I hope you're right. I plan to keep him over Bryzgalov myself, hoping that he is the best one available...but it maybe be a little over presumptious to label JB as the best one available.

Remember, there are proven/elite guys known to be on the market like:
    Bobby Lou
    Nik Backstrom
    Mike Smith

and other potential experienced tenders pending their team's action/non action:
Nabokov (sign or not...still has some life left)
Bryzgalov (if he gets bought out...imagine what would happen if he lands with the yotes again?)
Emery (who's played himself back into relevance this year).

Not sure the hype of JB and his 14 games this past year actually makes him "the best one available" ... He may very well end up being that, but the "un-proven" factor should still limit his value somewhat. Read and a pick isn't that far out of line as far as I'm concerned.

I did say "one" of the best available.. I honestly think he is worth the gamble, but thats just me.. Backstrom, Smith, and Bryzgalov not playing in a defensive system are ALL not one of the best available.. Louongo?? Depends on where he lands.. Nabokov is good but you never know, he is getting up there in age, played really well last year.. And Emery?? Verdict is still out, he did well as a back-up, not sure he could be a starter.. My fav is Luongo..

Ok I just convinced myself that Bernier is the best available, HAHA..

NYI, Phi, Min and Fla are the latest teams I am seeing... what is Florida's angle having interest with Markstrom on the cusp?
