Maybe Miikka may play afterall? Why have " conversations" if you are retiring?

The rumour is that Kipper is in Calgary right now. I wonder if he would come back for one more year to stay in shape to play in the 2014 winter games?

I don't know, he would have to outplay Rask, Rinne, Niemi, Lehtonen AND Backstrom in my opinion. Plus he wasn't on the preliminary Olympic team roster, although that is likely more a by-product of his impending retirement decision than anything else.

Just can't see Kiprusoff beating out that group of goalies, even if he were to play, cuz Calgary isn't going to make ANY goalie look good this season!

I could see him as a number 3 goalie behind Rask and Niemi in the 2014 games. But it doesnt make sense to why he would want to get killed every night playing in Calgary and only collecting 1.5 mil in the process,

Not a chance Kipper beats Rinne and Lehtonen for a spot in the Olympic roster.

Flames schedule a press conference for today 10am Calgary time. I assume it's regarding Brian Burke announcement.

    D-Pair 1: Dennis Wideman-Mark Giordano
    D-Pair 2: TJ Brodie-Mark Cundari
    D-Pair 3: Kris Russell-Chris Butler

    Goalie:
    Joey MacDonald (50/50 split)
    Karri Ramo (50/50 split)

    Lee Stempniak-Mikael Backlund-Mike Cammalleri
    Dennis Wideman-Mark Giordano

I was at the Dome for the Isles game last night, and I think Russel has a very good chance at PP2. He looked really smooth with the puck. Don't be suprised to see Wideman and Gio Split up on PP1 and PP2 so that they can pair Brodie or Russel up with each of them.

    Something like:
    Wideman-Brodie
    Gio-Russel

Thanks Derek. Even though I knew this going in, but just seeing Stempniak's name next to PP1 makes me realise this could be a very long season! Or maybe they'll overachieve - we'll see!

Looks like I was dead wrong with Cundari. I thought he would of made the team given the way he played last season in his 4 games that he played with the Flames. Cundari was sent down today with 18 others:

CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames announced today that they have made 19 player assignments.

    To Abbotsford Heat (AHL):

    Carter Bancks – LW
    Laurent Brossoit – G
    Paul Byron - C
    Mark Cundari - D
    David Eddy - RW
    Turner Elson - LW
    Ben Hanowski - LW
    Braden Lamb – D
    James Martin - D
    Zach McKelvie – D
    Greg Nemisz - RW
    Brett Olson – C
    Joni Ortio - G

Returning to their respective junior teams:

    Ryan Culkin – D (Quebec/WHL)
Coda Gordon – RW (Swift Current/WHL)
    Morgan Klimchuk – LW (Regina/WHL)
    Brett Kulak – D (Vancouver/WHL)
    Emile Poirier – RW (Gatineau/QMJHL)
    Eric Roy – D (Brandon/WHL)

Training camp will resume on Friday, September 20, 2013 at WinSport at 10:00 AM. The Calgary Flames have 38 players remaining at camp (3x goalies, 13x defencemen, 22x forwards).

We will have to wait and see. The Flames will suck with or without him this year so I dont know if having Monahan play more than his 9 game limit will do him any good in terms of his development. If the Flames wait one more year he will be bigger, stronger and more mature which will help him succeed in the long run. The Flames dont want to mess this one up.
