    Default Iginla vs Kovalchuk

    One's mid career. One's old.

One makes $11.3 million. One will probably make $7 million next year.

One knows where he's playing next year. One is uncertain.

I'm 2-3 years away from being in contention. In the Cap League, who is the better pick for me?

gotta be Kovy here I think. Who knows where Iggy will end up next year, and he's started to show signs of slowing down.

    A thought....

What if I play them both? Drop a guy like Suter and his $11m salary?

ON the back end, I'd play Green, Hedman, Carlson, Brodin, Bogosian, Trouba.

    Thoughts?

I don't know about out right dropping him. I mean he is a stud regardless. id try to shop around iggy and suter and see what lines up. even if you sell them on the cheap for a cheap winger or dman or draft pick. giving up a guy who will get you a ton of points is always hard to do.

12 points in 10 play-off games, so how exactly is this a sign he´s slowing down?

Calgary was just not a good team, there was absolutely no one to play with.

Anyway to be honest i wouldn´t want any of these three players in a cap league.

If you are 2-3 years away from contending then why do you want Iginla? He will be retired by then. I would drop Suter, pick up Kovy and look for a younger player that will be good in 2-3 years. Picking Iginla now is useless in my eyes.

Since you have Alfy, Selanna and Iggy all slotted on the RW, definitely take Kovy..

And your team really isn't that far-off, I wouldn't say 2-3 years off.

Iginla is the best keep, because he won't get $7m under the new (lowered) cap.
    I think it's more likely he'll get about $5.5m.

And from the numbers you posted ($11m), your league goes by ACTUAL salary.

Kovalchuk's salary stays over $10m until summer 2018.
Suter's salary is $11m until summer 2015... then $9m after that.

Those are both TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE numbers in actual salary leagues.
I'd put both on the block and see if you can fetch anything decent for either.

***Of course, moving them depends more on how much cap space YOUR league allows and whether you actual feel any cap crunch to move them.

I was coming on here to basically say the same thing as this. I dont see Iggy getting 7M on his next deal. I was going to suggest aroundn 5M but 5.5M isnt far off from my estimate either. Really, it could also depend on where he plays, that could determine a lot of his cap hit. He may very well want to stay in Pittsburgh next year and if thats the case, I dont think they would have 5.5M in cap space to give him. He may be willing to take less to play there with Sid.

Either way, was Pengwin7 stated, the other 2 salaries are brutal in an "actual" salary league setup, and not cap hit setup. I'd take his advice and put either of them on the block and see what kind of return you can fetch.

Iggs could sign a 1-3 year, 1-2M a year with crosby making him a fantastic salary cap league players to own. Hes worth the gamble. If he signs anywhere else he will be in 4.5-5.5mill range, and therefore less value. How much is he willing to give up for for chance to play on Pens is the answer to this puzzle.

Realistically Scoob i was coming to you to talk Iggy today anyway .

Might as well be honest here though.

I think Iggy takes a deal lesser than 7 anywhere he goes. But there's 30% or so odds he takes a Selanne Colorado deal to stay in Pittsburg (2-4 mil) with Sid and becomes someone you can leverage in the race later on to me or one of the other contenders this year for a slumping stud or a kid who's to far away to help.

Would i buy him? Yup. Should you sell him? Honestly i wouldnt say you should.

Oh and if Suter isnt 80+ points he sure as hell isnt worth 12 mil in our pool. And 90+ is kovy's number for being good. He's probably viable with your cap at 80+ but you wont have any real market to move him.

If i'm you in no way am i keeping Suter. I'm toying with keeping Kovy just because you have ridiculous cap space. And i'm 100% keeping Iggy just to see what happens. You can always flip him in the heat of his signing this summer if you get cold feet.
