Default My Malkin for 1st and 2nd overall picks?

Hey I was curious to see your opinion about a possible trade offer.

I own Malkin and i'm tempted to offer him to the owner who has the 1st and 2nd overall picks in this year's draft (he acquired the 2nd overall pick in another trade last year).

I gave up RNH and Stepan (before he exploded) for Malkin. I won the league and i'm pretty stacked at the F position. We have 12 f, 6 d and 2 goalies in our lineup.. G, A PPG, PPA, SHG, SHA, W, L, +/- are some of the cats in our league.

the first 2 picks would give me McKinnon and Drouin... It's hard to predict the productions of these young players ... and Malkin is a sure bet for 90 pts... what do you guys think of this proposal? should i offer it.. or keep Malkin!

I don't know about you but I'd rather keep Malkin and try to build around him, instead of taking any chances. If you already got one of the best players in the world, I don't see the risk/reward benefit of playing Russian Roulette.

First of all; how did you get Malkin for RNH and Stepan? I don't know if I have ever seen such a one-sided train. Here, take my Ferrari, and all I want is your Civic and Corolla. Wow.

Second of all; I would not trade Malkin for those two picks. You know what he is, Drouin and Mackinnon are still speculation.

I am not going to just scream NO at you like all the others. Here is why I would not do it...

You won this season and Malkin for all intents and purposes was mediocre (Due to missing time, I know he still got his points in the games he played), imagine when he plays a full season your team will be that much better.

Secondly, getting the top 2 picks as sexy as it is, is just to unknown. You take the 2 players (assuming Drouin and MacKinnon) and hope 1 of them becomes a Malkin type scorer and the other just a good player. I would keep the proven commodity. Now if you were able to be sure the 2 picks would both be 85-90 point players year in year out obviously you make the deal but it is to much of a crap shoot.

If JD and NM turn out to be 90 point players each you can look back and say ooops but having the 2nd best player in the world right now is a nice thing.

NEVER trade a proven stud for potential and unproven prospects...ever. I'd consider those picks only if another top 10 was coming back with them. Even then..maybe. There's a reason he's considered one of the "big 3". On a side note, it would help to see your team and scoring cats.

    I'd say Malkin.

But in fairness... the player values are based the number of teams in your league.

    If this is a 30-team league x 12F... that's 360F in play.
In 3-years... Drouin (70pts) + MacK (60pts) are going to do better than Malkin (90pts) + 361st best forward (30pts).

    If this is a 10-team league x 12F... that's 120F.
In 3-years... Drouin (70pts) + MacK (60pts) are probably NOT going to do better than Malkin (90pts) + 121st best forward (50pts).

The value of a waiver-wire forward is important when considering the LONG-TERM value of this trade.

For the next two years though... Malkin + waiver wire forward >> Drouin + MacK.

Or the guy can do his job as GM over the next three years and find a way to improve his final roster spot while keeping Malkin.

Keep Malkin. You're hoping one of those guys turns into a 90-point player, but you already have that player in Malkin.

You keep Malkin for 2 more years, then trade him for Mackinnon and Drouin. Malkin will be about to start trending downwards where the two young studs will just start hitting their stride.

Malkin is turning 27 this year. Not exactly a point in his career where he's close to a decline.

In 2 years it'll be more like:
-Malkin is still a dominant top 3 player
-Mackinnon and Drouin will just be getting their feet wet, and 1 of the 2 will probably be a disappointment

I would trade Malkin for a top 10 player and a pick, but not 2 picks
