    Default 2014 Team Canada

Well tonight I got bored and decided to predict who will make Team Canada as they try to defence their Gold Medal, with that said this is the team I put together now I know many people will disagree or have different versions but this is what i put together.

John Tavares - Sidney Crosby - Steven Stamkos
Rick Nash - Jonathan Toews - Claude Giroux
Eric Staal - Ryan Getzlaf - Corey Perry
Taylor Hall - Patrice Bergeron - Mike Richards
    Matt Duchene

    Duncan Keith - Brent Seabrook
    Drew Doughty - Shea Weber
    Marc Staal - Alex Pietrangelo
    Kris Letang

    Carey Price
    Roberto Luongo
    Cam Ward
Straight Points keeper league. Keep 5 Forwards,3 defence,1 goalie.

F: Nicklas Backstrom, Joe Thornton, Henrik Zetterberg, Zach Parise, Logan Couture

D: Erik Karlsson, Alex Pietrangelo, Oliver Ekman-Larsson

    G: Sergei Bobrovsky

I know he's old, but not sure how one can possibly justify excluding MSL - the reigning league scoring leader and Stamkos' natural wingman - from the team.

I would take him over Perry in a heartbeat.

Trust me, it wasn't easy I just want to see how his body holds up next season, Taylor Hall or Matt Duchene would be the first ones I would exclude to add in St. Louis

Hall is going to have to show half a defensive brain this upcoming season if he is going to be brought along to play 3/4 line minutes. His only advantage is that he is a winger, but even that might not be enough.

Let me get this straight... you're concerned about the REIGNING Art Ross Trophy winner's "body holding up" next season? LOL

I also have a tough time not seeing Subban on Canada's roster after his Norris-like season. I know there are a lot of right handed defenseman for Canada, but still...

It's so hard to make a roster for Team Canada because they are going to be so many player left out.

I personally wouldn't put Mike Richards on it. I would also make an all-out shutdown line of Toews-Bergeron-Benn(or ROR).

    Tavares-Crosby-Nash
    Nash-Stamkos-Giroux
    MSL-Getzlaf-Perry
    Toews-Bergeron-Benn
    E.Staal/Hall

    Duncan Keith - Brent Seabrook
    Drew Doughty - Shea Weber
    P.K. Subban - Alex Pietrangelo
    Kris Letang

    Carey Price
    Roberto Luongo
    Corey Crawford

    -----------------

Thomas Drance had also a brillant idea of bringing the full SJ Sharks PP at Sochi, I loved that idea also...

    Exclusions from 2010:

Thornton, Iginla, Marleau, Morrow, Heatley (I think Thornton and Marleau are still on the radar)

Pronger, Niedermeyer, Boyle (I'd like to see them find a way to add Boyle)

    Brodeur, Fleury

I wonder if Iginla will get another shot at it, assuming he re-signs with the Pens next year? Possibly more of a depth role but if he gets more time on Crosby's line then they might want to see them together in Sochi.

Mercy... that is one fantastic team.
    Good job putting that together!

This is one of the best lists I've seen.
I added some stick sides to your defensemen (well-balanced).
    I especially love your 4C.
    Perfect. Write those in pen!

I can't tell if you're joking or being serious.... but I know they have a lot of right handed shot defenceman. Their are obviously guys who you can include like any Team Canada but I even took the time to sit down and write out 30 forwards I'd invite, 16 defenceman and 6 goalies, so it isn't like I rushed this process.
Straight Points keeper league. Keep 5 Forwards,3 defence,1 goalie.

F: Nicklas Backstrom, Joe Thornton, Henrik Zetterberg, Zach Parise, Logan Couture

D: Erik Karlsson, Alex Pietrangelo, Oliver Ekman-Larsson

    G: Sergei Bobrovsky

He's played in one Olympics back in 2006, and at 38 I don't think he's going to make it now. Not to mention at 38 you have to worry how his body is going to hold up so yes I am concerned
