Apologies if there's already a thread going but I didn't see one; curious as to the communities thoughts on Kessel going forward. Does the maturity he showed in the playoffs change anything in terms of expectations? Is PPG reasonable to expect? Of course in multi-cat, he'll never chip in with hits, blocks or +\-, but in points only, what's the verdict? To this point, despite where's he's finished amongst the scoring leaders the past couple of years, he still seems to be the Rodney Dangerfield of the league, no respect!
    Any thoughts are appreciated!
    Cheers

35-40 goals and 75-85 points seems about right

I would see if you could move him for a versatile up and coming centre an a top d prospect. Maybe something like Seguin and Hamilton. Just throwing out ideas.

Excellent offensive player. One of the best, period. Dobber has him ranked #12 in the league in points-only keepers. Should give you a good idea of where Kessel stands. If I'm selling him the bar has to be very high and ideally you should be packaging him to trade up for one of the mega-stars.

The cool thing about fantasy hockey is that you separate the art from the artist. Who care if Kessel gets respect? All you want is production.

I agree 100%, I was just being a smartass. I guess I was just looking to see where folks think he stands in terms of top talent. I felt he was fairly undervalued up to this point, but that's likely not the case for most now.

Thanks for the feedback all around!

Someone gave me negative rep for saying I was being a smart ass comparing Kessel to Rodney Dangerfield and told me to post something relevant.
The question was legit, just so the annonomous negative rep giver is aware. I'm totally cool with someone calling me out, but at least sign your name.

Yeah I don't get where the negative rep is coming from I think this is a very legitimate thread.

Yup, totally agree.. If you are able to buy low on Kessel because other managers dont give him the credit he deserves, I'd jump all over that if I could

i think that most that have him know what they have so i am not sure you could actually buy low on him to be honest

obviously you could get him with a sexier name but that is generally the case with many players

in many cases the guy that has kessel is someone who stuck with him for years or kept taking him every year in that limited keeper while being snickered at by his pool mates

now he is doing the one laughing and isnt likely to part with him

As far as I'm concerned, Kessel is a point per game player or pretty darn close to one.

Be careful if you're moving him, he's a stud.

He's one the guys I'm targeting. I've been going through a rebuild since last summer and it's time to flip some young assets for proven guys to try and contend next season. I'm in a very active league and a one-year rebuild is fairly easy to accomplish. on top of Huberdeau, Galchenyuk and Grandlund, I've aquired the top two picks in the draft, so I've got some ammo to bring in a couple solid proven keeper. My D is stellar, but I could use a second keeper to go with Schnieder and some upgrades at forward.
    Thanks for the feedback guys!

Kessel has often been under appreciated. Two summers ago the GM with kessel in my league was basically begging someone to take him after picking him up off of waivers a while after the last GM dropped him! So I helped him out, traded him Vokoun and Wideman for Kessel, Oshie plus a 2nd and 4th pick lol.

That being said it was in the past and I think he has finally been getting respect for what he does. He's a sniper and a point producer and anyone who has knocked him for lacking "grit" or "heart" are realizing he's one of the best scorers in the league and that is pretty special on its own.

And there was nothing wrong with your post. Negative rep for that is beyond soft :smh:

Next year I peg Kessel for 36/41/78. I also think the Leafs add some pieces in the summer to support him so be careful dumping him.
