Studs
They're Back
The Penguins came out quickly against the Senators and looked to set the tone for the series with a 4-1 win. Evgeni Malkin assisted on the first Pens goal 2:41 into the first period and the scored the game winner at 12:15 of the first. Chris Kunitz assisted on the game winner and added a 3rd goal near the end of the 2nd period to put the game out of reach. Tomas Vokoun got the start again for the Pens stopping 35 of 36 shots for a .972 SV%. Vokoun now owns the 2nd best GAA in the playoffs with a 1.28 and the best SV% with a .962. Malkin is tied for the league lead in points with 13 and Kunitz is tied for 12th with 7.
We Three Kings
Mike Richards and Slava Voynov assisted on each others goals as Los Angeles took a 1-0 series lead with a 2-0 victory over San Jose. Mike Richards is tied for 12th with 7 points and Voynov is tied for first in goals by defensemen. Jonathan Quick also had great game stopping all 35 shots he faced. After a rocky regular season Quick is posting better postseason numbers than his incredible Cup run last season. His second shutout of the postseason has him tied with Henrik Lundqvist for the league lead.

Off To A Rough Start
Craig Anderson only stopped 26 of 30 shots for a .867 SV% in the Senators 4-1 loss to the Penguins. In 24 regular season games Anderson only allowed 4 goals twice. With Vokoun playing the best hockey of his career Anderson is going to have to find his 'midseason' form quickly if the Sens are to stand a chance in this series.
It Appears To Be Safe To Go Back In The Water
Antti Niemi allowed 2 goals on 20 shots for a .900 SV% in the Sharks 2-0 loss to the Kings. While 2 goals isn't a lot, Niemi has to do better when facing such a low shot total. The Sharks only chance at getting past Los Angeles is for Niemi to outplay Quick. He didn't get off to the best start in that regard.

Two weeks ago I had a time issue which prevented me from getting a Studs & Duds out, thanks sixhands for the assist. Last week though I was just out to lunch and completely forgot about it. For that I qualify as a Dud.
Odds & Ends
Isn't That Rich
Mike Richards 2 points tonight moved him into sole possession of 21st place in playoff points among active players. He trails Henrik Sedin by 4 points for 20th and actually has 3 more points than Daniel Sedin does. Henrik has played 10 more playoff games and Daniel 7. Bet you didn't know that did you.
