    Default Enstrom for Connolly+

Been going back and forth with the Enstrom owner a bit and its come down to this:

    Enstrom

    FOR

    Brett Connolly, 2013 3rd rounder (45th overall)

Enstrom's 28 and locked up for the next 5 years, with Byfuglien there for certain for the next 3. His pace had him at 32 points over the full season, which would have put him tied for 3rd in defensive scoring. The only catch is that he's going to be making 5.9 mil next season, and I'm giving up a prospect whose salary doesn't count against the cap. I'm already in pretty significant cap trouble, but my defense core would easily be the best offensive unit in the league. This would also make Boyle, who has a huge contract, expendable.

It's tough to let go of Connolly, but I've also got Tyler Johnson and Alex Killorn, and I need to clear out some space for whoever I draft 1st overall. I could just drop a guy like Galiev, but if I can get some value I'd rather do that.

Any input is greatly appreciated. Rep as usual.

The contract may be tough to absorb and you know your team/league better than anyone but Enstrom is the better player by far.

The more I thought about it, the more anxious I got that the other owner might retract his offer so I ended up accepting it just now. All of my other discussions on Connolly had much less significant returns, even if the contracts were more manageable. I'd still like to hear what everyone thinks about the deal, though!

Enstrom side wins by a big margin, salaries involved or not. He is not a multi-cat D, as he is weak on PIMS and SOG, but he is money in the bank for points.

Connolly has not shown his upside in his limited NHL action and I feel that players like Killorn and Johnson will get cracks at the top lines (which they already do) before Connolly.

For sure you had to make that deal. As long as the 5.9 mil doesn't hurt you too much, it's a reasonable salary for what Enstrom brings to the table. Connolly isn't anything special and this point and the draft pick doesn't seem to be too steep. Well done pulling the trigger.

If Enstroms salary was within your limits, this was a deal you had to make. Connolly could be very good for many years but you know what you get from Enstrom. I always like proven over potential, especially considering Enstroms age.

    Solid deal IMO.
