Benn. Kadri struggled down the stretch and while Im not saying he won't pick it back up...I just need to see it consistently before taking someone like Benn over him.

Plus you count FOW and I like Benn there big time.

There is. Can't take a shortened season as seriously as a regular one where there is no time for market correction. Kadri is a 60-70 point player who was playing well over his head and riding an unsustainably high shooting percentage from himself and his linemates. Benn is a 75-85 point player. I wouldn't think twice, I don't want Kadri 3, 5, 7, or 10 years from now. The only reason I wish I had Kadri was to sell him super high to someone with a leafs hard on.

Benn for me. He plays all the top minutes against the opponents top defensive lines.

Kadri has had a very good season, but he doesnt face the oppositions top defensives squads. They are out against the Kessel line.

Until I see Kadri perform like this against the tougher opponents, I will stick with Benn.

You have all echoed my sentiments. Here's the deal. I inquired about Kadri. His owner asked for Benn + one of Brunner or D. Hamilton. I told him know one in the world of fantasy hockey would KNOWINGLY trade Benn for Kadri straight up, let alone for Benn plus..???

I then countered with Brunner + solid prospect and he thought that wasn't enough... no problem. Just to see where his head was at, I offered what I felt was overpayment of Conacher + Brunner + Omark. I'll be honest, his reply floored me:

"I'm sorry than we don't have a deal, as Kadri has more points than Benn this year, more SOG and they're pretty close on both hits and pp's. Brunner is a upcoming player but still not considered a star level player yet and is on a sinking Detroit team. Lets face it, any person with hockey knowledge knows this. Benn is a solid talent but we all know that Kadri has more upside to him and that makes him a dangerous player."

I get posturing in a trade, but sometimes player eval goes beyond that point and onto something else. I'm fine with his choice to decline. I am now looking at this with my commissioner's hat on. Should I be concerned about this said GM's ability to assess players?

BACKGROUND: all GMs are advised before entering that they must exhibit STRONG player assessment skills to stick. This is a nee GM (joined last week) brought in to replace a GM who failed to remain ACTIVE. Since discussing this deal and another, I'm starting to wonder. We all value players differently and there is no working around that as it is a personal choice. With that said, this team inherited is pretty strong and is playoff caliber, so this isn't a case of a GM with a garbage team needing to beat people on trades. More important, I worry for future the lopsided nature of his dealings with future trades as we have no veto system. What say you?

LOL. I've had so many guys in and out that I've become good at knowing what kind of GM is a match off the bat or at least in a very short amount of time.

This isn't the 1st offer that raised my eyebrows. It is the most telling, though.

I think this might not have been the best time to enquire about Kadri given his play this season. You would likely have to overpay if his owner is smart, whether or not actual value matches perceived value (short season or beyond).

Everyone values players differently so I would hold off from worrying or making judgments on these managers. Let it play out and see what happens. Given this is a shortened season, I feel that many players' perceived value could be artificially inflated/deflated and I'd rather see another full season out of such players (e.g. Kadri). Who knows, Kadri may continue to excel, Benn may stabilise into a solid multi cat player with limited upside offensively, or other possibilities.

Considering how much you differ in evaluating - see how what one perceives may not be the consensus? That's all part of the negotiating process, including (possibly) overvaluing your own players to get the best possible outcome.

The positives you take out of it is that he gave you an honest assessment of the offer based on his own knowledge and perception. Make a note of this for possible future dealings.

Sorry but that's not an overpayment for Kadri. Not really even a good value IMO. If I had Kadri, I wouldn't even consider it.

Conacher is decent but Kadri is much better (I wish I could say otherwise as I own Conacher in one league and don't own Kadri in any league). Brunner hit the wall after a good start and he's pretty much your average mid-level fantasy forward. Omark probably won't make a career in NHL. So to me that severe underpayment for Kadri and classic quantity over quality deal. And I'm not even that high on Kadri. He'll be a solid 60-70 player, not expecting anything more, but even that's better than the guys offered compined IMO. Kadri proved more this year and has higher potential.

That said, I agree that no one in their right mind would ever trade Benn for Kadri. But Kadri owners have the right to feel otherwise. Kadri was better than Benn this year and while I absolutely love Benn, his upside is overrated around here.
