    The Great One

    Default I won! I won! I won! I won!

I'm so thrilled to say that I finally won my favorite league after nearly 20 years of partipation with the same members. It is a full keeper salary cap H2H league, and prior to this year I had missed the playoffs two years in a row and three of the last four years.

I finished the regular season 4th overall, easily won the first two playoff rounds, and ended up playing (what I consider) the top team in the final. I had an awesome schedule (Taylor Hall with 5 games in the last week) and most of my team was healthy, which helped me secure the victory.

All told, my team was successful due to breakout seasons from Hall and Voracek, rebound seasons from Semin and Goligoski, and the usually solid seasons from E. Staal, Parise, Benn, Yandle, and Shattenkirk. My two main goalies were injured for a lot of the season (Anderson and Smith), but with only one goalie starting per week, my bench replacement, Nabokov, was my team MVP.

As mentioned, this is a salary cap league, and with hefty raises next year for Hall, Voracek, Benn, Shattenkirk, and Smith, I am going to have to cut some salary this offseason. I have lots of work to field a championship defending team, but for now I'm just going to enjoy the moment.

In addition to this league victory, I also finished 2nd in my other three leagues, so I had a very successful season and everyone on this site deserves recognition for helping me keep up to date on injuries, goalie starts, emerging trends, and so on. So, thank you to everyone and best of luck in your playoff leagues.

    Congratulations!

Missing the playoffs the past 2 seasons must have lit a fire under your butt to spur you to the win.

Good luck defending the title next season

Good stuff. I'm always looking for material for my Thursday articles so if you ever have ideas or requests regarding your salary cap league shoot them my way. We're basically in the same boat regarding the need to cut cap after a championship victory.
