If by "several disappointing seasons" you mean ONE, then you're exactly right. The year before last, his 85 points was still good for 7th in the league.

And last year, his down year, his shooting percentage was a full 5% lower than his career average (which implies some bad luck -- not that I'm saying it was all bad luck). He also took far fewer shots in his down year(s) -- including last, if you consider an 85 point year a down year.

The Rangers might contain him (they are fantastic defensively, he didn't have a great deal of success against them this season, and Lundqvist can single-handedly win games), but it's silly to make it sound like it's a foregone conclusion or that Ovy has been anything but solid in the past. Last year was the exception, not the rule.

This will be a short-lived series. One of them will dominate and take the series in just 4 or 5 games. My pick is Rangers.

Thanks bondon. Making sure I wasn't the only one who thought that post had some "help".

As for this game so far, yawn!

This feels like an incomplete thought.

He was very _______ when he found out he didn't make the team this year.

Let's fill in the blank: (note, for brevity I've already filled in one blank with when but you could do otherwise if you choose)

I'm going to go with thirsty. Nash was very thirsty when he found out he didn't make the team this year. It was a long flight over and he slept through when the refreshments were offered.

The shot totals aren't low but the scoring chances I feel are like next to nothing. Definitely agree, boring game so far.

Some very obvious no-calls on penalties.

Letting them play is cool to an extent, but power plays and penalty kills shift the momentum and bring some excitement to what just becomes a doldrum game.

Putting the whistle away doesn't do anyone favors, especially when penalties are obvious.

I dunno... Lundqvist has made at least four really big stops so far. Maybe there haven't been a ton of chances but the Caps have had some really good ones.

Maybe I just missed them . i've had the game on mute since the second period, couldn't stand hearing the announcer blow his load every time the puck came close to the net.
