This series should be a blast.
I hate the RAGS...really hoping WAS wins. I have the RAGS in 6 as well. I thinks WAS's biggest advantage is their PP and NY takes fewer PIM than any other team in the league. Also NY ranks 6th in possession metrics while WAS is 21st [they are better at home though].

I see this series going to 7 but I won't guess who gets the lucky bounce in the 3rd OT period.

This has the potential to be the most exciting series of the first round.
I'll go out on a limb and take Rangers in 5 though. I think Lundqvist will stand on his head for the Rangers and take the series for them.
Another toss up for me. Oates wins it. Caps in 7.
Any of you think Marc Staal returns at some point this series?

I wanted to make the Caps my pick for the East, but NYR is a tough first round matchup. Especially since these teams are so familiar with each other because of recent playoff matchups.
Im going Caps in 7....but Im worried about it.
Interesting but probably totally worthless stat:
Ryan Callahan is on a seven-game point streak has (11 points in that span). All seven of those games have come against non-playoff teams. His last point against a playoff team came back on March 10 (25 games ago) against Washington. In total, only four of his 29 points this year have come against playoff teams.

This one is tough, I'm going with the Rangers in 7. They can shut down Ovechkin, just like all teams are able to do in the playoffs.

That's a bit of a fallacy.
Ovi has 30 goals and 59 points in 51 playoff games. He was a point-per-player in every playoff year except for last year when the Caps went ultra-defensive. Since 2008, he has scored the fifth amount of playoff goals (in 12 to 18 less games than those ahead of him), and is third in points-per-game (behind only Crosby and Malkin). He also has the highest goals-per-game of any player playing at least 25 games.

9 points in 14 games last year in the playoffs. McDonagh, Girardi, Clowe, Hamrlik, Lundqvist and co are going to shut him down.
Teams key in on certain players in the playoffs, Ovie has had a lot of free ice during the season. Now he has to fight for scoring chances, it won't be easy.

He had one off postseason in terms of points, but their style of play didn't allow for a lot of offence.
I'm not taking issue whether the Rangers can do it this season or not, just with the belief that all teams have shut down Ovi. A guy getting the numbers he has gotten over the years is not being shut down.

I'm stoked that these two play each other in the first round. That means one less tough opponent for the Bruins to face later. I like the Capitals in 7 here but could easily see it go the other way.
Holtby vs Lundy, of course I would take Lundy. But then again, I took Thomas over Holtby last year.
Without me, it's only "aweso".
