Caps extend Neuvirth: two years at $2.5-mil cap hit.

    Default Expensive back-up?

Any chance they are doing a sign and trade? Can't imagine Neuvirth is happy - especially with Oates giving him back to back games a few weeks ago just so Neuvirth felt 'part of the team'. Fairly similar to Holtby's contract - insurance, future tandem, what is their plan?

frig...I really wish the goalie situation was clearer in Washington. With this signing, there is still no guarantee Holtby is the main guy going forward.

I know this signing makes great sense for the team (two young, relatively affordable goalies), but I would have much preferred them dealing Neuvirth and bringing in a guaranteed backup for Holtby. (From a purely fantasy hockey perspective, that is).

So Neuvirth got a better contract than Holtby even though Holtby has outplayed him this year by a wide margin. Me confused.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.
