    Default Cammalleri....SOB!!!

Not hurt if u wondered...just benched. Just my luck...need all the points I can get!

    Per NHL recap:

Calgary had won six of eight entering the game. The Flames suited up numerous young players recently called up from Abbotsford of the American Hockey League and sat healthy veterans such as Mike Cammalleri, Lee Stempniak, Matt Stajan and Cory Sarich.

And yet Wideman who is nursing a broken finger is deemed well enough to play with nothing on the line. Huh? Surely they should have had him ride the pine...but no he gets to lace them up?

I am telling you this Calgary Flame organization is being run buy a bunch of chimps...they couldn't make good decisions if their lives were on the line. Watch they will move their best prospects during the summer and insist they have retooled!

    Rant over.

    It's their way of tanking?

I'm actually surprised that there isn't a more general thread on this.
When I was checking the box scores, I noticed that Calgary had pulled several good players, including the young Backlund!, from the line-up.

So - they lost to Nashville... a team that was 3pts behind them in the standings and is now only one point back. If they lose another few games, they'll be in good position for a top three pick.

    Hmmm....
    http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2...-in-nashville/

It will be to see who’s going to step up,” head coach Bob Hartley said, per the Calgary Sun. “Most of the young players have been with us for a few weeks, and some have just arrived from AHL Abbotsford. But many of them have played a game or two before, so they know what to expect.

It’s kind of one of the final exams.”

Hartley's comments sound perfectly prepared... the perfect thing to say as a reasoning for rostering a bunch of kids in a game against an opponent a few points back in the standings.

It will be interesting to see their roster for their next two.

Definite tanking... well masked... but tanking indeed.

If only they did this a few games ago instead of winning...sigh.

Do we think the vets (Cammalleri, Stempniak, Stajan, etc.) get back into the lineup next game?

    Great question.
Calgary really stands to gain a LOT by tanking.
They are in the 7th last position right now... but if they lose-out, they could finish 3rd or 4th last.

    45pts Philadelphia (2 left)
    42pts Calgary (2 left)
    41pts Edmonton (3 left)
    41pts Carolina (2 left)
    41pts Nashville (2 left)
    38pts Tampa Bay (3 left)

    37pts Colorado (2 left)
    34pts Florida (2 left)

7th last has about a 5% shot at the #1 overall pick.
3rd last has about a 14% shot at the #1 overall pick.

And from what I've read about the upcoming prospect draft, it seems like there are 3-4 studs available. So that bottom 3/4 range is significant.

****ing christ... So do I call someone up from the farm to replace him or not? Is he done this season? Tanking is just utterly shameful. Pieces of shit trying to be as bad as possible on purpose. Disgraceful. This is one of the areas where the European tiered league model is light years better than the North American fixed league model. There is no reason for any team to tank in Europe. There should be some sort of league penalty for this kind of blatantly disgraceful behavior.

In a normal season, my keeper league would have finished up this past Sunday (21st). But because of the lockout and shortened season, it made sense to have the fantasy season run for the entire duration of the NHL regular season. And now we have to deal with teams tanking and sitting their proven players or clinching a spot and then sitting their proven players. It's all the lockout's fault!

I don't have a major problem with this -- if a team rolls out its vets with nothing to play for, is that much worse than rolling out a bunch of youngsters that are desperate to show their stuff for spots next year?

Sucks for fantasy owners, but it's in the best interest of the team (regardless of whether or not they better their draft position).

You always put out the best team to win. Anything else is cheap and disgraceful.
