    Default Skinner (UBI Again?)

Saw on a replay that it looks like he got his bell rung again tonight on an open ice hit by Cowen and left the game. Anyone have any more specific info?

Damn. He's really got to learn to take care of himself a little bit or it's gonna be a mighty short career.

I actually was telling a friend of mine how I thought he was going to end up like Hemsky if this continues, or even worse Peter Mueller

This is killing his fantasy value. Even worse if your league is a cap league like mine where he will make $5.75 next year.

So Skinner is out tonight (which was a foregone conclusion already), but apparently not ruled out for Saturday and the team is hopeful he can play.

Anyone see anything more granular on on Twitter, more current local news feeds or anything of the sort? Is this just a pipedream full of rubbish or is there a realistic chance he doesn't miss more game action than tonight? Need to set the lineup for the final week this evening (tick, tock, tick, tock).

    From CBS:
News: Coach Kirk Muller said that he is hopeful that Jeff Skinner (upper body) can play against Flyers on Saturday, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: The team is evidently still awaiting the results of some tests done on Jeff Skinner, so at the very least, he won't be available Thursday against the Jets.

A little more info that I was able to dig up ... sounds slightly encouraging.

    http://www.charlotteobserver.com/201...or-flyers.html

"Muller said from the reports he had received he did not believe Skinner had any concussion issues. Skinner has been sidelined because of concussions in each of the past two seasons.

"He's being checked out today and we'll get some more results," Muller said. "But from what I've been told so far, we'll probably see him in the lineup by the weekend. So it's good so far."

Some positive Skinner news ... no concussion following the medical tests. Seems that we might actually see him return to the lineup tomorrow.

It would be interesting to see what the NHL defines as concussions now. This is what I studied for my orthopaedic board exams (applies to general public/amateur sports).... I am sure Skinner was dazed/confused and he's had a prior concussion this season ...

Grade I: Confusion without amnesia and no prior history; RTP (return to play) when asymptomatic (no headache or confusion with exertion - running up and down sidelines)

Grade II: Confusion with retrograde amnesia (memory loss); RTP after asymptomatic for 1 week.

Grade III: Loss of consciousness; RTP after asymptomatic x 1 month.

Multiple: Multiple Grade I, II, or III concussions in same season; Out for season. RTP in next season.

Interesting information. I think the NHL has similar guidelines:

NHL Grade 1: Player is visibly confused and shakey after hit in the head but gets up like a good old hockey player. Recommended Action: Play next shift
NHL Grade 2: Player is confused and has memory loss. Recommended Action: Must be a neck or whiplash thing. Give him a day off practice.
NHL Grade 3: Player is confused, memory loss, maybe blacked out and all symptoms come back with exercise. Concussion-like symptoms – day to day until he forgets he is hurt then send him back in.
NHL Grade 4: Player’s brain is rattled to the point it is no longer usable. Hockey playing career is over but still has a future as a colour commentator on ESPN.
