    Default Pietrangelo or 1st overall/Stalberg??

Full 12 team dynasty, rebuilding team. 4 of each forward position, 6 def., and 2 goalies. Cats are G, A, PPP, SHP, PIM, +/-, SOG, W, SV%, GAA, SO.

I have Pietrangelo and Stalberg. If I don't trade either of them, I lose one of them due to not having enough roster space. Obviously, I'd drop Stalberg and keep Pietrangelo.

I was thinking, however, to offer Pietrangelo straight up for the 1st overall in this year's prospect draft. My def. is weak, so there's a chance I'd take Jones. What if the guy with 1st overall says no, do I go for 2nd or even 3rd overall? Or just lose Stalberg? Thanks.

So your plan is to trade AP, then draft Seth Jones, and hope that in 4 or 5 years, Seth Jones turns out to be as good as AP? I think you are better off sticking with AP personally...

If you trade for the 1st overall only to replace Pietrangelo with Jones then you would be making a mistake. Jones is going to take years to develop to the level of Pietrangelo, whereas Pietrangelo is still very young and is one of only a few young defensemen I'd be comfortable building a defense around. If you are moving Pietrangelo and plan on taking MacKinnon or Drouin that's one thing, but Jones is not someone I would consider taking 1st overall.

In this situation I would 100% just drop Stalberg. You've probably got another 1st that will yield a pretty good prospect anyways, right?

If your defense is weak, why would you trade a top-3 dman in Pieterangelo?....this deal doenst make any sense at all for your team. If your d is weak, that is the last player you should think about trading.

Stalberg really isn't so great, just dump him. The above posts are spot on.

Yeah I have two first rounders, which will each be between 9-12. If I were to take MacKinnon, would it be a good move?

If your sole goal is to acquire Jones with the 1st pick, I'd say don't make the trade. Keep what you have in AP and drop Stalberg. AP is a better option than Jones, especially with a weak defense.
