Default Was this trade good for my team?

I took over on a team in a keeper league where we have 24 players. We have 2 drafts in the year. One after the NHL Entry draft and we have to drop at least 5 players and add 5 players. But we can drop as many as we like. Other draft is midway through the season. 12 Forwards count towards pts and 4 Defensemen count towards pts. Rest of players are not counted.

My team came 12/15 last season and there wasn't much to go with other than Alex Ovechkin and Carey Price and Pekka Rinne. Knowing I had no shot at coming 1st or making it into the money I traded Ovechkin since I believed I would be in rebuilding mode for the next 3-5 years.

Perhaps you had the best intentions on a rebuild, however you went a bit wild in what you gave compared what you got back in return. This one will sting for a while and set your rebuild back further. Live and learn from it. Find the positives from the lesson. See it through though, see your rebuild come to fruition down the road.

Just an FYI - if your new to fantasy hockey, always a good bet to try a one-year league first to dabble around and learn about trading etc.

    Good luck to you!

Seriously , this is the same topic , yet a new thread.

I think it was a bad trade for you. And if it takes 5 years to rebuild a team, you are doing a lot wrong.

Yikes, that trade could spark a "should this trade be vetoed?" thread. I would vote against it if its still pending (if you can even vote against your own deal) and hope the rest of the league does the same?

Sorry dude, that ones pretty bad!

    Let's put it this way.

Ovechkin is worth more than the other 5 players in this deal.

Gaborik alone is worth the 3 players you got back in return.

    VETO..............

If I were another GM in this league and that went through, this would be my last season. Complete and utter garbage of a trade..... talk about a league ruiner.

Yeah, not to beat a dead horse but this was not a good trade for you. Ovechkin himself should have gotten you a more in return.

I'm sorry that the posters on this site don't tend to have more diplomacy. I feel bad for someone who is (maybe) just learning the ropes to have to face such harsh criticism. Not that they're not all right about the trade.

At least you have two stud goalies left.

If I remember the other post this guy had, he traded Rinne and Price as well.

He traded Rinne for Marian Gaborik (and then dealt Gaborik as part of this deal).

And then he traded Price for Mark Scheifele.

4 years and im in contention to win this league. im 2nd and 50 pts behind the leader (big lead i know) but i turned this ship around. And no i wasnt kidding about these deals, even last season i lost my mind and traded david pastrnak for andrew ladd....never again. I have a lot better idea on players values now.
