Luckily they only play the Kings once down the stretch and Regher is a UFA after this season so anything can happen after that.

So the Sabres got three 2nd round picks (one from Calgary for also taking Kotalik in the deal) from this Regehr experiment. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Maybe as Whitney's replacement but I'd imagine they want someone who is more of a puck mover than Regehr. They've already got Smid and Schultz as stay at home guys on the left side. Not to mention crushers like Fistric and Peckham.

The real hope, I'm sure, is that Klefbom can come over and fill that role right away kind of like Brodin has for the Wild but coming off an injury riddled season where he missed most of his games that seems unlikely. There's always the possibility that Marincin is ready after doing a year in the AHL this season. But if those guys aren't ready and they don't want Whitney back (please don't bring his wonky wheel back!) then Regehr makes for a nice bandaid until help comes internally because the FA market doesn't exist for a long term solution.
