Which is weird because they are totally in a good playoff position but I think they realize that they don't have much of a shot this year and would rather set themselves up for next season.

I like as a fan of the Oilers on the outside looking in.

Yeah but that sounded like a pipe dream based on a false rumour. Even the Islanders' incompetent management knows enough not to move such an effective player signed to a highly reasonable deal for the next three seasons.

Sheppard could fill that role or the Couturier rumor for Clowe thing might be happening... Would be slick, but I highly doubt it. A boy can dream!

Honestly, I've been curious if it's going to be a bigger trade than a small swap. I have a feeling Boyle could be bandied about for a potential blockbuster. I know Boyle doesn't want to go, but I don't think he has a NMC/NTC (but I could be wrong).

He's got a limited NTC now that allows him to declare eight teams he won't accept a trade to so there's a lot of flexibility there.

Yeah. I wouldn't be surprised as this is the best time to maximize Boyle's trade value in my opinion. We'll see. I didn't expect Handzus to be traded, so that's kind of nice. They still get in the playoffs, make some cash there, then get ready for next season.

Apparantly the Jets were a team in on him. I question Cheveldayoff and the direction this franchise is heading.

    Traded for a 2013 4th round pick
    http://blogs.mercurynews.com/sharks/...start-tonight/

He has not contributed at all since he signed last year. He was signed to stabilize the PK and lock up the 3rd line center role. Last season, the Sharks PK was HORRIBLE and he has 2 points and is -9 in 28 games this year and been a healthy scratch the last 6 games. Surprised they got anything for him.

It's a fine line with some of these guys. In any other year teams would be killing themselves for a guy like Boyle because he's not just a rental but with the cap drop that limits the teams that can actually bring him in. The time to deal Boyle would have technically been last season when all anyone was concerned about was having that extra year or two under contract. Now people would rather have rentals especially because that also brings the cost down.

Still, Boyle is attractive enough that teams should be after him. I'm really surprised there haven't been rumours about the Red Wings being in on him. They still feel like the logical destination to me.
