    Default [Rumour] Dan Boyle

The Flyers and perhaps Rangers are looking to acquire Dan Boyle's services

I've been hearing about Boyle to the Rangers for a while. The only issue is that he's signed for another season and the Rangers have to deal with extensions for McDonagh and Stepan this summer so something will have to give if they do make that move.

He would be an interesting addition to both the Flyers or the Rangers. I don't think the Rangers are likely unless they shed salary. The Flyers love trying to make a splash.

Yep but the Flyers are in a precarious cap situation right now so I don't know how they pull it off. Detroit is the only team I could really see being a fit for Boyle if they decided they wanted to pull the trigger.

The rumor is that Gaborik would be somehow involved. That would shed enough salary to add Boyle.

yea, because the sharks really need another offensive talent that disappears for long stretches when it matters.

Yeah, I don't get it but shit Doug Wilson is some kind of impetuous GM.

He'd be good on the flyers, but philly isn't in a real position to buy (at least right now).

I could see the Rangers taking a shot at Dan Boyle.

Per capgeek, the Rangers could add a player TODAY with a cap hit = $5.8m.
    http://www.capgeek.com/
Per capgeek, the Rangers could add a player at DEADLINE with cap = $8.0m.

Boyle has a cap hit of $6.7m... which means that in a week or so, the Rangers can afford to take him on.

The Sharks have been riding Matt Irwin as their 2nd option to man the PP point.
Last game it was 4+min for Boyle and 2+min for Irwin. 2-0 loss to Minnesota... sputtering PP.
With Irwin in the line-up, and Burns playing forward, the Sharks are probably more inclined to get some grit back on the blue line.

    Potential trade:
    Dan Boyle for Chris Kreider/Bickel/Pick

The only issue with the Rangers is what happens this summer when the cap drops and they aren't even able to re-sign their own guys. With Boyle they'd have over $59 million committed with extensions due for Stepan, Hagelin and McDonagh. You've gotta figure McDonagh is commanding at least $4 million. Or do they just do the deal and then figure it out in the offseason figuring that worst case scenario they simply use the amnesty clause on one of Boyle or Gaborik who would each have just one year left on their deals making them pretty easy to buyout.

    ^ Yup, this.
I think GMs already have those numbers crunched.

    1. Build the best team you can right now.
    2. Deal with cap problems in the off-season.

Ottawa should be interested IMO since he is not a UFA this summer. They'll need to reach the floor next year and they can either trade for a guy like Boyle or re-sign Gonchar. I think Boyle would be a better fit, and I don't see him blocking a trade to come here. Depends what the cost to acquire him would be though.
