one GM in our league has both stamkos and seguin. that deal would have had me barred from making any future trade proposals. nice work

Haha, thanks for all the good words!

I was busting my ass all week trying to land either Malkin or Stamkos by using Staal and Kane while they are at the top of their game as trade bait. Malkin fell through due to positioning problems, but I'm pretty stoked on this one.

I think for our league and stat categories, I now have an incredible core going forward.

With Stamkos, Nash, Perry, Letang, and Rask to build around, I think I'll be a contender for a few years to come.

I'd say it's an even trade.
Once you take out PPP (one of Stamkos' strengths) and add HITS (one of Backes' strengths), the trade comes out fairly even.
You also have SHP (slight advantage Backes) and +/- isn't normally a Stamkos strength.

So... we shouldn't lose track of the fact that Stamkos is a BOSS in only 3 of 6 categories. (+/-, SHP, HITS... Stamkos = meh.)

For me, it comes down to how many forwards you start.
If you start, say, 6F... then Backes is a very valuable player because you HAVE to get your HITS built into your forwards that can score.
If you start, say, 12F... then you don't need a Backes, you can just roster a Matt Martin in 1/12 forward slots to almost completely stock your HITS category.

Somewhere in between... it evens out.

I would not say this is a HUGE advantage landing Stamkos... but I'd still give you a slight edge on this deal. Good work.

    This. It's a win win.

    Stamkos >> Kane
    Seguin << Staal

The rest is fairly even IMO.

I love Seguin, but Staal has hit 100 before, and is reminding us this year that he still has it in him. Seguin is not there yet, and has a ways to go before catching up to Staal (even to Staal's consistent 70 point seasons).

That's more so how I feel. The guys in my pool are treating it like highway robbery, when there is a chance Staal is returning to his 100 pt campaign. I feel like I won, but not by a lot.

Interestingly though, because Kane is crap in Hits (I think I use my body more in a no-contact beer league), the difference in grit isn't much. I gave up ~40 hits total on the season. Anyway, I have sort of given up on grit because it is my only category I'm not tops in, and everyone in my league is demanding an arm and a league for anyone who hits. Emelin helps me, and I have some decent power forwards who contribute, so I'm not league-bottom either. I figured I can't afford right now to give up a top point-producer and shooter just to land some grit and make my team still questionable in that department.
