Yeah good point, I can't overreact. I'll wait to hear more before I do anyhting, esp since Ellis got cut/hurt at the end of his game last night (thanks ice)

"Canes goalie Ellis out 7 to 10 days

Canes Now | News & Observer — Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Dan Ellis, injured in the final minute of Thursday's game against New Jersey, likely will be sidelined a week to 10 days, general manager Jim Rutherford said today. Rutherford said believes Ellis was cut near the knee. Ellis had blood on his right hand as he left the game. He was relieved by Justin Peters. Rutherford said with Ellis out, the Canes likely would look to recall goalie John Muse from the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL. The Canes have been without No. 1 goalie Cam Ward, who suffered a sprained left knee March 3 against Florida. "

well according to sportsnet broadcaster @darenmillard on twitter 2 hrs ago:

"Dave Tippett tells hc@noon Mike Smith is still at the doctor and he is waiting for word."

"Mike Smith had a headache last night."

Edit: Although it sucks if it is a concussion type thing, possibly better sign than a serious knee or groin injury.

So Edler just got a 5 for the hit on Smith, right? I've read places he got 5 and a game, but he assisted on the GW goal in the 3rd so that's not possible.

if you look at the boxscore he only got 5 minute major and nothing else. he has a phone meeting this evening with shanny though so you never know, I think people are speculating he'll get 1-2 games or something.

Thanks. I think the fact Smith ended up leaving the game will be a factor in Shanny's decision.

looks like we have an update from reporter who covers the yotes (@azc_mclellan):

"Tippett said Smith is day-to-day. Saw doctor this morning and then got treatment. "We'll see if he feels good enough to practice on Sunday."
Tippett said this morning they were talking more like whiplash with Smith. Tippett didn't think Smith went to 'quiet room' last night.
"I think it was just strictly him being able to do the job and movement wise," Tippett said."

so much uncertainty around these types of injuries...is it whiplash or a concussion? are they being cautious with the player, or are the symptoms genuine? is the team withholding details of the injury or playing up the injury so that the offending player is more likely to be suspended?

either way, it means I am down to '0' goalies in two of my four leagues...man, I was having luck with injuries early in the season and was holding onto 2nd spot in all my leagues, but now the injuries are catching up to me and I am dropping fast in the standings.

Hey guys, I'm bumping this up in hopes of getting some kind of update in the next several hours. I'm in a weekly starts league where I have to set my roster shortly because of work issues and the time difference issues between here and NA.

I have been flying with Price and a backup in goal all season (Emery or Bernier mostly) and it hasn't been bad but when Smith went down I grabbed LaBarbera. Now I am trying to decide between starting Emery (4 games this week so should get one in the B2B) or LaBarbera (4 games this week with a B2B so likely will get one). But quality matters so if Smith is okay I want to start Emery.

Let me know if you hear anything about Smith practicing - I am going to check back in about 4 hours for sure.

well it's still early, but it's not looking good...@azc_mclellan

"Goalie Chad Johnson is here and on the ice for practice this morning. Moss is also participating. No Smith and Michalek."
