    Default New Pope

Jorge Bergogolio has been elected Pope and has taken the name Pope Francis. He is the first non-European Pope in 1200 years. He is particularly conservative in his religious views and has a daunting task ahead of him.

If he does he's in big trouble. Last time I looked I don't recall seeing many trees around the Vatican. A constipated pope is the last thing the Catholic church needs.

Should be interesting. I think latin Americans finally got their wish as this is the first from the America's period and in Latin America itself, they represent 40 percent of the world's catholics. That's a high number considering the last census registered a little over a billion catholics worldwide.

So he'll keep up the downright heinous policy of opposing condom use in Africa? When is this ******ed (or idiotic, stupid, pathetic, archaic, stone-age, hypocritical, etc, etc) position going to be abolished? It's the 21st century. We have science. They're molesting little boys by the thousands and hiding the perpetrators. There is no place for the Vatican and the Pope in a civilized, modern society. **** 'em.

I'm not catholic, but I don't think they are an institution that has no place in society today. I think the issue of contraceptives is outdated myself and I've got friends who defend it, and I let them have it as I really don't care, but places like Africa could really use something like that.

The issue of child molestation is a big deal and they are trying to crack down on that and deal with it. There have been many cases where these men have been removed. It's then up to the state to prosecute them and I honestly don't know the rate that happens at.

One of the big issues the cardinals discussed is the issue of child molestation and their desire to abolish it from happening within the church. So I don't think it's fair to lump the entire group when the majority are trying to swiftly rid the church of that.

Much like the explosive politically themed threads we have had in here, I don't see this turning out be a pleasant conversation.

However, the new pope gets far less PIM's than the ex pope, although much more consitent at FOW.

I guess we should just scrap all the Italians too, since some of them were in the Mafia, right?

I'll say one thing for you, Dakkster - you never flinch from taking the most extreme position possible.

The only people who can legitimately support the pope are the priests his organization protects from prosecution for pedophilia.

Anyone else actually supporting the pope and the Vatican are ignorant idiots who support a hateful and hypocritical organization.

The leadership of the Catholic church has no place in the 21st century. They are completely void of empathy, legitimacy and relevance. That's not an extreme position. It's just common sense in light of what those ****s are actually doing and in light of how modern we are as a society. They are an organization stuck AT LEAST 500 years in the past and they don't even follow the words of their supposed god. Unacceptable and pathetic.

Didn't take long for the hate to come out. It always saddens me when people have such hate for other people groups.
