They based their rank off their standard format, which is:

    G - A - +/- - PIM - PPP - SOG ~ W - GAA - SV% - SHO

Here was this year's top 10 (in order):

    Malkin
    Crosby
    Stamkos
    D. Sedin
    Ovechkin
    Giroux
    Tavares
    Lundqvist
    Perry
    H. Sedin

    Me shooting the breeze here:

I think Crosby re-takes #1 barring another concussion between now and the rest of the year.
Malkin & Stamkos will definitely be #2/3. Which one comes first will always be up for debate haha, I bet they put Stamkos #2 unless Malkin really goes off on a tear.
I think Ovechkin probably becomes #4 and Giroux #5.
Daniel Sedin & Tavares probably after that.
After that...who knows. I wonder if they even have a goalie in the top 10 given how the top dogs have struggled so badly. They're not going to put Corey Crawford or Craig Anderson in the top 10.

One guy who I think is a shoe-in for top 10 if he continues what he's doing is Pat Kane. Could see Zetterberg being top 15.

    Maybe Rask in there? Neal?

I agree about Crosby reclaiming #1 baring serious injury.
I think Malkin's concusion will see him slip to #3 immediately behind #2 Stamkos
Then I'll go as far as to say that Giroux and Tavares will come in 4/5 (interchangable) with Ovie dropping to #6 (maybe #7 depending on Sedin's finish). *

I think we'll see 1 or 2 goalies perhaps breach the top 10 list with the way some are playing this season...but I find it hard to equate goalies with skaters so I'll stop there.

But I will make a fearless forcast...Ovechkin droping out of the top 5 (maybe top 3 if we look back far enough) will be enough to jerk him back to life and he'll have the type of season in 2013/2014 that will see him either re-crack the top 5...OR...He'll finish out side the top 15 (and that ranking will mainly come based on the salvaged value of his name alone).

Well... Yahoo! has a "Rank" (actual rank based on actual accumulated statistics) and a "O-Rank" (which is where they peg a player at the start of the year - more of a "prediction").

    Next year predictions:
    1. Crosby (Current Rank: 1)
    2. Stamkos (Current Rank: 2, Last year #2)
    3. Malkin (Current Rank: 13, Last year #1)
***I'll say those top 3 guys are a lock for those exact spots***
    4. Tavares (Current Rank: 8, Last year #17)
    5. Giroux (Current Rank: 24, Last year #5)
    6. Neal (Current Rank: 14, Last year #3)
    7. D.Sedin (Current Rank: 28, Last year #23)
    8. Ovechkin (Current Rank: 32)
    9. Rinne (Current Rank: 22, Last year #32)
    10. Lundqvist (Current Rank: 90, Last year #6)
    11. Rask (Current Rank: 26)
    12. E.Staal (Current: 3) or P.Kane (Current: 9)
