UH OH! It's the quarterfinals of the Cage Match Rookie Tournament!
If you missed the opening round do not fret because you can still help choose the champion. Hopefully you know the drill with these but just in case let's brake it down. Each week there will be four matchups for you to choose a winner. The winner moves on to the next round. The last player standing is the top rookie.
The criteria for you to vote on are simple:
- No goalies
- No defensemen
- No positions
- Points only keeper league with one caveat - Don't be a perpetually rebuilding knucklehead. No one has ever won a fantasy league with just potential so value this season ABSOLUTELY matters. I cannot stress this enough.
Vote your hearts out!
#1 Nail Yakupov vs. #4 Mikhail Grigorenko
#1 Jonathan Huberdeau vs. #4 Cory Conacher
#2 Vladimir Tarasenko vs. #6 Jakob Silfverberg

This one is interesting. I went Galchenyuk, despite believing Granny has the far better upside. Sometimes ya wait around for it to kick in and I dunno what it is (be it ennvironment, coach, frail ego) but it just never materializes.
Before ya know it your 80, feeble minded, always incoherently ranting on-and-on about Michael frolik this, and Michael Frolik that all while drooling in your oatmeal. Maybe that's just my Pops...
But I digress. Could this be Galchenyuk lower yet seemingly more reliable upside winning over Granny's elite ceiling? Given the latter's hiccups this season.

Got to go with Gally on this one.

just shows how people change their mind so quickly in fantasy. "What have you done for me lately."
Prior to season when my friend asked who were the top drafted prospects out there - It was pretty well always Yak first and Granlund/Huberdeau and even Tarasenko battling for 2nd. No mention of Galchenyuk in the top 4.
Ill take Granlund. Give him time to adjust to NA.
Not as simple as that. NHL experience counts a lot. NHL experience with relative success counts even more.
We all agree what a tough road it is and the stacked odds against a prospect has to face to have long term success in the NHL. Consequently, each hiccup a prospect encounters is weighted more heavily relative to a vet experiencing the same issue(s) (right or wrong).
No one is denying Granlund's upside nor calling him a bust. Were they, then your "What have you done for me lately" premise would be more apt.
I think what we're seeing (at least from my POV) is consideration being granted to a prospect who is finding success versus one that has yet.
Now weighing the immediate gain from owning Galchenyuk versus waiting for the sublime upside bequeathed upon Granlund is the subjective fun stuff we poolies love to engage.
But I don't think anyone (in this thread anyway) has given up on Granlund per se.

Not a case of souring on Granlund at all as when I voted for Galchenyuk I expected to be voting for the underdog. I agree with the rest, it's more a case of one prospect adjusting much quicker to the NHL and I don't see their upsides far enough apart to give the vote to Granlund in a vote weighted for immediate production.
