    Default Will Giroux Rebound?

I'm watching this Habs-Flyers game and the Flyers look absolutely terrible. Giroux as well as the rest of the Flyers offense is invisible.

He is of course a core player, even more so for me with the injury to Spezza with his dual eligibility. Will he rebound or will the Flyers continue to suck?

I'm not sure....I owned Giroux last season for his crazy break-out season, but I was very wary of drafting him as a top-5 player this year. A lot of things went right for him last year, not the least was Jagr who is now gone. Things will improve when Hartnell gets back (he misses him dearly), but my gut instinct was that last year may have been one of those career-years that is never really replicated. I wasn't ready to accept that numbers like last-years was the new norm for Giroux.

    Time will tell I suppose.

It's looking more and more like Giroux needs someone else to make him better. And that someone else was Hartnell (and Jagr) last year. Hartnell is 2 weeks or so away from playing. Giroux should get a nice boost when he comes back.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

I think they Flyers looked bad particularly today because they were playing the second of a back-to-back. (NJ sucked today too) I have a lot of faith in Giroux, but the injuries on the Flyers are really making them suck :P

He just needs a grittier player on his line like Hartnell, or Schenn...
Once Hartnell comes back he'll be awesome again, but until then, he'll probably continue producing at a similar pace, or perhaps a little bit more.

Giroux looked awful today. I'm sure the injuries suck but he did nothing to try to make things better.

Giroux is too good not to bounce back, in my opinion. Still have a great deal of faith in him, and getting Hartnell back won't hurt one bit.

My league Giroux has 25 FPTS. B. Schenn has 41 FPTS. Looks like Giroux really needs better players to make him better. We will see when Hartnell comes back if Giroux starts putting up some pts. I think I like B. Schenn as gritty forward, can score and hits and blks.

Simply put, yes. Do not worry. Aside from a serious inujury, he will go a tear before too long. He outscored Jagr by about 40 points last year so I think it's obvious who was helping who more. Jagr will be missed on the PP though.

Teams slump as well as players.

Philly's D sucks and G's linemates are decimated.

But you cant really trade him now so you got to ride it out IMO.

Agreed, this would be the worst time to trade him away.

It won't get worse, at least it shouldn't.

    Cheers.

    This

I would like to submit to you some intersting statistics from last season

With Jagr in Lineup - 77 Points in 66 Games = 1.16 Pts / Game
Without Jagr in Lineup - 16 Points in 11 Games = 1.45 Pts / Game (only 5PPP out of those 16)

A certain winger that create a lot of space for Giroux to do his thing is close to returning from a foot injury. The buy low window is closing soon imo

Exactly. Saying that Giroux is struggling because Jagr made him a 93 player last year doesn't make much sense to me. From what I can tell, there are a few things that are leading to Giroux's statisical struggles, aside from the general level of suck on the Flyers right now.

First, his shooting percentage is well below his career average. I feel pretty confident in saying that this will rebound and by season's end he'll be scoringon at least 11% of his shots.

Second, he's shooting less than he did last year. He had 242 shots on goal last season, and his prevous high was 169. Assuming his career shooting percentage of 12.2%, that's an additional 8 goals just because he was shooting the puck more. That's also ignoring assists he may have gotten on rebound goals by Hartnell or somebody else.

Third, did anybody honestly expect Giroux to get 38 power play points again? That's an insane total that was bound to regress this year regardless, but considering the fact that the Flyer's PP is noticeably worse this year Giroux's power play production is likely drop even further.

Do I think Giroux's going to rebound this year? To a certain extent, yes. His shooting percentage will come back to normal as the year progresses. When Hartnell comes back we should also see a bump in production. I'm just not sure if it's enough to get Giroux anywhere close to the 90+ point player that some of us expected this year.

Well said, and that's a very interesting statistic that I didn't see before.
