    Default Studs & Duds - Friday 2/15

    Studs

Making a deal with the Devils

Patrik Elias and Ilya Kovalchuk both racked up three points in the Devils comeback win over the Flyers. Elias had a goal and 2 assists, while Kovalchuk had three helpers, as the Devils generously spotted the Flyers a 3-1 lead only to play Indian giver and take it all back and then some.

    Blues Deluxe

Alex Steen continues his hot streak and left Calgary singin' the Blues. Steen picked up his fourth goal in as many games and two assists for good measure as St. Louis beat the Flames Friday night. Not only does Alex have a goal apiece in the last four but he has points in five straight and counting.

Train kept a rollin' all night long

Chicago rode multi-point nights from four of their own to extend their scorching hot start. The Hawks got two assists each from Duncan Keith and Jamal Mayers, plus a goal and a helper each from Nik Hjalmarsson and Marcus Kruger as they downed the suddenly mortal San Jose Sharks 4-1.

    Ole!

On the flip side of tonight's first stud we have Ilya Bryzgalov who allowed four goals on 18 shots to those same Devils. That's twice now in his last three starts where the Bryz has blown to the tune of a sub-.780 save percentage. He also delivered a double whammy to his owners in leagues that count saves by posting save totals of 10 and 14 respectively in those flops.

    What's going on?

The title of that classic from legendary Motown artist Marvin Gaye says it all, just what is going on in Hockeytown? Henrik Zetterberg and Damien Brunner have logged back-to-back minus-3 efforts. Brunner has the lone point for the duo in those games, an assist in tonight's 5-2 loss to the visiting Ducks.

Don't shoot until you see the whites of their uniforms!

Considering that there's very little white on the L.A. Kings home jerseys that would certainly explain Columbus' measly 13 shots-on-goal. Thirteen shots? Are you kidding me? The Blue Jackets lone goal occurred while Jonathan Bernier was standing in line for the men's room. Bernier had nothing to do all night except down Cokes and nachos while waiting for the odd stray shot to enter his general vicinity. After stepping out to relieve himself the Blue Jackets struck for their lone score*.

*Actual events may not have happened in this manner, but this description is likely far more entertaining than the reality.

    Quick hits

    - With two assists on Friday, Henrik Sedin became the Canucks all-time leading scorer, passing Markus Naslund. Hank now has 757 career points.

    - The San Jose Sharks lost that lovin' feelin' on Valentine's Day. Who are we kidding, they haven't had it all month. The Sharks are now 0-for-February.

Does he just heap the nachos into his catching glove? Must be tough eating w/a blocker on your hand. Maybe I'm overthinking it....
