Not saying it was intentional but people like Cooke are reckless. Its always, oops I'm sorry, but with most other people, this never would have happened. Cooke=POS.

Watching the play over and over, no doubt about it, it is a horrific accident. Yes, it was Matt Cooke, but it didn't look dirty to me at all. The lack of objectivity by some of the posters in this thread is staggering to the point of ridiculousness.

I don't think there was any attempt to injure at all.

...but Cooke is going to be bleeding before the end of the next Sens/Pens game.

Its absolutely assinine to say that he did it on purpose. Both were battling for the puck, it was just a bad luck incident for Karlsson that involved Matt Cooke delivering a clean hit.

this sucks for Ottawa fans and Karlsson owners.

I didn't even bother reading any of the 16 pages of this thread. It is something like this I'm sure.

Cooke is a goon, did it on purpose

    no he didnt

    yes he did

    no he didn't

    yes he did

Geez, he really cleaned up his game, not.

    it doesn't look intentional

    yes it does.

    is that about right? lol

not sure anybody is actually saying it was intentional..well there could be a few..there is 16 pages already. But just the fact that its Matt 'P-O-S' Cooke is enough to get the ire up. it could have been anybody else and i dont think its even a question.

so has anybody actually heard if its a complet laceration, or just a partial, nit that it matters a great deal, but a partial would really shorten the healing time. i havenet doen any reading on it yet this morning so....

Looked like a "distinct kicking motion" to me..

Horrible loss for the Sens and all NHL fans.

Agreed. Fans are pissed, rightfully so, but this was an accident. Unfortunately, Murray's post game no-so-subtle innuendo, combined with the spineless talking heads' obligatory need to create controversy where none exists will only serve to exasperate a retaliatory response.

    Here's my take.

I've been impressed with how Cooke has changed his ways over the past couple of years, since that "ultimatum" he received from Lemieux, "clean up or leave".

A tweet I read today asked whether there was "intent to injure, intent to sever the Achilles tendon".

To me those are two different questions:

    - Intent to sever the Achilles tendon? Almost one hundred percent certain that there was no such intent. However, what in God's name is Cooke's skate doing up in the air as he hits him? No reason for that, and you've got to control your skates in this league, even more so than your stick. Don't give me the "momentum raised his leg", only reason why that would be the case is if he was doing a slew-footing type motion. Add it all up, no intent to sever the Achilles tendon, but a reckless play that resulted in that severe an injury.

    - Intent to injure? Matt Cooke may have changed his ways, primarily in terms of head-hunting, but he is one of those players who is always looking to hurt people, especially the better players on the other teams. He's not the only guy in the league with that approach, but he is one of the main guys you think of when you look at guys who try to hurt. So it is here, he pins Karlsson against the boards and basically makes a move that usually results in a type of slewfoot, lifts his left leg, very reckless, so that it comes down on Karlsson's leg.

So, attempt to cut the tendon, no way, attempt to injure, most likely, it's just the player he is.
