"The Minnesota Wild has recalled goaltender Darcy Kuemper from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League and reassigned defenseman Marco Scandella to Houston."

The release does not mention anything about Niklas Backstrom or Josh Harding. Stay tuned.

Goalie Kuemper recalled by Wild, expected to start tonight

The Wild has given no reason as to why Josh Harding isn't starting, but he is still with the team in Vancouver.

The Wild has recalled goaltender Darcy Kuemper this morning and the early word, although unofficial, is that he is expected to make his NHL debut tonight against the Vancouver Canucks.

As of now, the Wild has given no reason as to why Josh Harding isn't starting, but he is still with the team in Vancouver.

General Manager Chuck Fletcher will be available after the optional morning skate, which is scheduled to start in one hour.

In 16 games, Kuemper, 22, has the second-best goals against average in the AHL (1.79), second-best save percentage (.938) and has won five in a row.

Defenseman Marco Scandella was also reassigned to Houston. As of now, it's unclear if that was to make room for Kuemper or if defenseman Jared Spurgeon will be activated for tonight's game at Vancouver.

Kuemper was named the Western Hockey League (WHL) Goaltender and Player of the Year in 2010-11 after compiling a record of 45-12-15 with a 1.86 GAA, a .933 SV% and 13 shutouts in 62 games for the Red Deer Rebels. He ranked first in the WHL in wins, GAA, SV% and shutouts.

Kuemper was selected by Minnesota in the sixth round (161st overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He has not appeared in an NHL game and will wear sweater #35 with the Wild.

Harding wasn't feeling good this morning, so they went with Kuemper. GM says it's not something they were unprepared for. Harding still skated at practice.

I managed to pick up Kuemper to start tonight, in a league where I traded Josh Harding literally 12 hours earlier, haha. M goalie ratios are shot this week thanks to Bryz, so why not take a (remote) chance at a shutout from a rookie goalie? I assume he'll be sent down shortly but it's fun to catch lightning in a bottle.

I think Hackett hasn't been all that sharp either. I can definitely see a slow cook. They may as well see what Kuemper can do.

(2/12/13) Minnesota Wild GM Chuck Fletcher says Josh Harding has been feeling "off," while he searches for the right mix of medications to battle his multiple sclerosis. Harding was supposed to start Tuesday, but will likely be replaced by call-up Darcy Kuemper. "He just feels a little bit off. What he's going through right now, he's dealing with some medications," Fletcher said Tuesday. "There's a lot of trial and error. Every situation is different. The doctors advised us of this a few weeks ago that eventually we will get to the right spot where the medication works and his body adapts to it." We wish Harding all the best and hope the illness doesn't keep him from playing in the NHL.
