$2.9 per might be a little high off of 8 games but he was going to be a ufa after this season

if he kept rolling at this pace for the rest of the season some crazy gm would have given him $5.8 per

    Very happy for 30-year old Viktor Fasth. #NHLDucks secure him to two-year extension ($2.4M, $3.4M). 8-0-0, 1.78 GAA, .933 SV%. Good value.

Wow. Hiller trade? Now they've got Fasth locked up for 1M this year and a reasonable amount the next two years, and they've got Gibson waiting in the wings. Hiller's only got 1 more year at $4.5M cap hit, reasonable for a goalie of his caliber.

On Newper's point, I do see a Hiller trade possibility clearly opening up now.

Exactly my thought too. Looks like the Ducks are pretty sure Fasth is the real deal and there is no way they dished that much money for a back-up. Now the question is, where is Hiller going?
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

Toronto and Anaheim have a major trading history, of course, although part of that was Burke's ties.

    New Jersey?

Basically I figure most of Hiller's possible landing spots mirror Luongo/Schneider's and Bernier's, most likely Easter conference team, etc.

Man would he look good in a Hawks uniform, though...

For those wondering, the "Signing" thread was merged into this one as they will no doubt cover the same discussion.

If you're after a goalie, would you prefer Hiller over Luongo? Contract-wise, yes, talent-wise, no. But the asking price for Hiller may be lower.

    Hawks? What about Crawford?

Could Hiller be reunited with Carlyle soon?

you are talking less than $7.5 for 2 goalies next season

they arent going to be forced to trade hiller

likely if they get a good enough offer they will but there is no rush to do so

I dunno it not like the leafs goaltending has been a problem so far this season, Scrivens did have a rough game last night though.

Im quite surprised the Ducks threw this much money at him so soon. If Fasth kept up this level of play all season I would have had no problem with them offering this towards the end of the season before he was actually a UFA. I agree with the thinking that this means Hiller is on the block.

Maybe change the title then or something? I can see this signing news getting hidden.

Re Luongo, it's a no-brainer who a GM would want, Hiller, because they will not only look at talent but they'll look at age (3 year difference) and contract term left. Luongo ties you up bigtime and you'll be nervous as hell trading for him in case it doesn't work out. Hiller has only one year left, no skin if it doesn't work out. And yes Luongo is more talented, but Hiller's not exactly a slouch and to me the difference in talent in no way makes up for teh huge difference in risk given the age/contracts. Add to that mix that Gillis is a notoriously difficult GM in terms of trading, while Murray, based on the trades he's made, is as close as you can come to a pushover!

Re Crawford. To be honest I didn't realize until now how great a start Crawford has had. I was basing this off his mediocre showing last year. Disregard!
