TSN just said it's his 'back'. Not shoulder....but more serious than they first thought.

    Hmmm....a real mystery.

FRom Garrioch via the Ottawa Sun:

It's a certainty Spezza won't be going on the road with the Senators when they face the Carolina Hurricanes Friday in Raleigh and then travel to Montreal for a rematch Sunday afternoon at the Bell Centre.

The Sun confirmed Spezza, who has had back problems before, was in Toronto getting evaluated by doctors. He was spotted at the Ottawa airport Tuesday night catching a flight, but returned to the city Wednesday morning.

MacLean wouldn't acknowledge Spezza was out of town, which added to the mystery surrounding the situation.

There was talk on Twitter that Spezza could be gone for the season, but that may be premature. If he does have a procedure, the timetable would be determined then.

Huge impact if he is done. Sens have won something like 2 of their last 20 games without Spezza. Different time now with more depth, but you can't replace Spezza.

I will chalk that up to a bit of jealousy.

I'm worried that my team could be taking two bigs blows this week with Landeskog being knocked out indefinitely.
No rush moves; just wait and see. If he is done for the year, someone who is rebuilding will still take him off you in exchange for points this year.

You're full of it Notch. Jealous of what exactly? don't tell people you're "hearing things", when you're just listening to the radio and checking twitter like everyone else. Stop being a fraud.

#Senators expected 2 announce Jason Spezza will undergo surgical procedure on his back. Club doesn't considered this major surgery I'm told.

Oh this is thrilling - two of my four keepers seem likely to be out for large swaths of the season, and my top goalie is likely to get far fewer wins now as well.

Back surgery not major? Interesting but you gotta think that even the most optimistic recovery would be measured in weeks.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

I hope it is not the case, but I'm hearing it is looking like that is the most talked about course of action and the one they are leaning towards right now.
Nice scoop Notch, looks like you were right on the money with this one.

Yeah, it's hard to imagine that when surgeons dig into your spinal region, that's not considered 'major'. I mean, it's spinal.

    from twitter:

    Ian Mendes ‏@ian_mendes
Bryan Murray confirms Spezza will have surgery on Friday in Toronto for herniated disc. No timeframe on his return.

    Nick Kypreos ‏@RealKyper
Didn't intend imply back surgery as minor, there are non invasive surgical proced' that min' risks #Senators hoping this isn't season ending

    Ian Mendes ‏@ian_mendes
Spezza will able to start rehab about a week after the surgery on Friday.
