    Default Spezza - OUT

    Day to Day

    Won't play tonight:

    Ian Mendes‏@ian_mendes

MacLean says that Spezza will not play tonight. He will be further evaluated, but sounds like he's day-to-day.

    A bit more info:

“Spezza is out,” said MacLean. “He’s just being further evaluated so he needs to take some time to do that.”
MacLean said he isn’t sure about Wednesday’s visit by the Montreal Canadiens either. MacLean confirmed Spezza was hurt in Sunday’s 2-1 shootout loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins but didn’t give any further information.
“At this point, I don’t know,” said MacLean. “We expect that he would play (Wednesday) but we’ll have to see how the evaluation goes.”

Fantastic! I started him this week of course as the Sens have 4 games. Damn!!

Protect 3 players every year in keeper.

So conflicted....it sucks for the Sens, but it's good for those of us that own Turris....not to mention I offered Eric Staal for Spezza straight up last week, and was completely rebuked by our reigning champ. Seeing him sit out while Staal lights it up would be pretty sweet. But damn, it sucks for my Senators!

Its annoying when your fantasy team and your favorite team have opposing interests.....I don't know how most of you run multiple teams in multiple leagues. Dealing with conflict between my one fantasy team and the Senators is hard enough on Ol' Gil.

This might not turn out well:

    Bruce Garrioch‏@SunGarrioch

Coach Paul MacLean says waiting on evaluation before knowing how long Spezza could be out. Extended period hasn't been ruled out. #Sens

I think Spezza is a player that needs to have excellent conditioning. Last year he was healthy all season. It was also the first training camp with MacLean. Many of the players said it was one of the most intense training camps that they had ever been a part of.(sorry no link, I just remember reading it last year) I think Spezza's health was a reflection of that. The almost non-existent training camp this year was a recipe for the IR for him IMO.

hmm , he lasted longer than i thought.

good for turris owners but probably bad for almost every other senator.

How does this tweet from Garrioch jibe with the following comment from Maclean?

"At this point, I don’t know,” said MacLean. “We expect that he would play (Wednesday) but we’ll have to see how the evaluation goes.”

I know coaches are always vague about injuries, but I wonder where Garrioch got his "extended period" information.

For the record, I rarely trust what Garrioch says, seems he often exaggerates, etc.

You guys might want to start preparing for something more serious...like season ending surgery serious.

I hope it is not the case, but I'm hearing it is looking like that is the most talked about course of action and the one they are leaning towards right now.

Oh man, I really really hope your sources are completely wrong (although I very much doubt that).

Added hit for my squad is that any loss of Spezza for the season or any extended period will almost definitely impact Karlsson's production.

    Yep.

More importantly though, this will seriously impact the Senators chances for the playoffs.

He's not "hearing" anything other than radio speculation, which is based on nothing. Wait and see for now.

What would be the best thing to do right now if you have Spezza in your roster? Wait and see how serious his injury might be or try and trade to get some value.

I'm worried that my team could be taking two bigs blows this week with Landeskog being knocked out indefinitely.
