    Default Galchenyuk told he's staying...

    https://mobile.twitter.com/JohnLuTSN...3324239875?p=v

#Habs say Marc Bergevin and Michel Therrien notified Brendan Gallagher and Alex Galchenyuk this morning that they will remain with the team.

No surprise. Galchenyuk has been one of the Habs better players this season, even with limited ice time.

It will go up but it's not like he's being buried right now.

Hey everyone that told me he wouldn't at the beginning of the year... I TOLD YOU SO!

Yeah I know he had time to get his game back in Sarnia but I still knew this kid would stick full-time with in the NHL. He's too good.

Where's Big EV? You still gonna sell him off your fantasy team?

I think we've been down this road before. If the season started in October he would have been sent back. He was not ready. Now he is. The fact that you claim this to be a victory is kind of funny TBH.

I gotta say, initially I thought the Habs overpaid a bit on that Prust contract but I think he's the perfect guy to lead that line and develop these 2 guys. That line has been great so far, they bring a ton of energy and hard work and grittier play to the Habs, something that was sorely lacking last year.

    Some questions about rookies.

When do the rest of them find out if they are staying? I assume Tarasenko is staying as he is their leading scorer, but it would nice to hear if officially.

Silfverberg might be in some trouble.

Why is a talent like Grigorenko playing third line minutes? He is obviously talented and surely he could get second line minutes.

Galchenyuk has looked good so far, glad he stays.
Head to Head League: 1 point for G, 1 point for A. 2 for Goalie win, 3 for SO.
Start 6 guys every week. 3 O, 2 D and 1G. No substitutions once they are in (before the first game starts on Monday).
Protect 3 players every year in keeper.
    10 rounds of drafting
F: Crosby, Point, P. Kane, JVR, Kopitar, Rakell, Tarasenko,
D: Letang, Doughty, Karlsson, Grzelcyk, Faulk,
    G: Bob, Shesterkin, Demko, Kahkonen

If I'm right it's only the players that would be sent back to juniors that have to have the decision made on them before that 9 game limit..which is when the first year of their ELC would kick in.

Guys like Silfverberg and Tarasenko are unaffected by that. They can be sent down at any time if their team chooses because they came over from Europe. So with regards to Silfverberg, as long as he's not HURTING the team they can afford to sit on him and see if he can get comfortable and start producing.

Typically, I've noticed, coaches like to bring their rookies into third-line minutes.
It's usually more about seeing how the player is fitting in to playing defensively.

Hopping a rookie onto a top line can result in MINUS play because those top forwards expect each forward to be responsible for certain aspects of the defensive game.

Usually, all of the guys on a "Line 3" are thinking defensively - since they aren't offensively gifted.
So if just ONE (say Galchenyuk) misses some duties, the others will pick up the slack.

Growing up, it was often an unspoken understanding that line 3 was simply supposed to provide a rest for the top two lines and try to match up defensively with other teams skilled lines with a bit of grit mixed in to throw them off. In other words, typically your Line 3 Player is a defensively-sound & hockey-smart kind of player. It's the perfect line for a rookie.

Exactly...unless your name is like Crosby or something then you get to skip that part

Basically 3rd liners are there to check and wear down the opposition, if they happen to score some goals too that's often considered gravy. That said, some 3rd lines in the league are as good as a top line on a poor team and some teams just have pure depth across the top 9 with no true scoring studs.

To me it's more about not overwhelming them. Take it slow, and as the season progresses give them more ice time.
