The last time he played more than 70 games was 4 seasons ago. His present deal was $4.25M per year, getting 48 goals and 112 pts so far over 3 seasons ($12.75 M). That's basically $100,000 per point. So you lock him up for 5 years at $5.25M expecting him to be healthy??? Who was going to offer him $6M per year - Columbus? Not too many teams lining up to outbid the Leafs unless they are desperate.

If Lupul is worth 5.25M what will Kessel get next, 8-9M?

In a league where Hart Trophy/Art Ross winners get 8-10M I'd rather pay them, than second (arguable) line talent. I guess it's a problem when the team can't sign any good free agents (Connolly, Komisarek, MacArthur)
112 points over 3 seasons huh? Except he was out with a blood infection (nothing to do with injury prone) for more than 1 full year. When he did come back, it took him a couple months to get back into game shape and get his game going again. Once again, be logical and don't spout that same old Leaf hate that permiates these boards.

Can I be a homer? Sure, sometimes, but no more than any other fan. The difference is, I'm not a hater against arch rivals to the point of blindness.

    That said, Screw the SENS!!!

What are you talking about? Not concerned he's played 143/328 possible games?

Archival? Rivals usually need to be competitive and make the playoffs

P.s. if you want actual medical facts from a medical doctor/ orthopedic surgeon - Lupul had back surgery (at least twice) and got the infection (sepsis) which spread to/from his spine. A person with history of spinal problems playing a contact sport - That's not a risk factor is it?.. Heck, in NBA ppl saying Howard isn't the same, and he had successful surgery.

i would have said that before the season too, but roy has looked good with eriksson and jagr thus far... either way, it is a better top-6 than last year and at least benn won't have to play with ott and burrish.

LOL. I'm not even going to respond to these. Lets just agree to disagree and move on.

Can't wait to see Benn back and flying when he gets up to speed. I own him on both my keeper teams, so heavily invested in Mr. Benn.

I hope we seen Jagr-Benn-Eriksson on the top line. Could be very special to watch. Let the stats pile up!

During the lock-out Benn tried, and failed, to pick-up one of my staff when she was out at the bar. Hopefully this isn't a sign that his scoring touch has completely disappeared.

That's a great story! Was she aware of who he was? He's now a very rich young man...

Anyway, I'm confident Benn was just suffering from Lockout Rust, and was actually saving his "real" scoring for the ice.

Yeah she knew who he was... and apparently many people around here do and it doesn't necessarily help at the bars.
