    Default Jamie Benn

A Benn thread that isn't about his contract!

So what is the general consensus on just how high Benn can go scoring-wise? He's a player I haven't followed a ton since I haven't owned him in the last 3 years in any league, but I'm looking into acquiring him at the moment. I feel like 70 points should be a given with him, but can he go any higher?

I feel he could easily be a 80-85 point guy. He has the size and skill set to get there.

I'll agree with the 80-85, assuming he stays healthy.

And I think with Benn, that's going to be an issue.

69 games, followed by 71. An appendectomy is a bit of a fluke, but shoulder and leg injuries already too.

But he's a stud, no doubt about it.

he should hover around point-per-game for his career. given the current scoring conditions where only a handful of players are in that 87+ pts range, i think hes hard pressed to surpass 85 points with his current team situation

I think he is a ppg guy, maybe a bit more (82-85). The good thing though is he will be the focal point for years to come = consistency (barring injury).

Because of his style, playing with a top goal scorer will likely improve his own goal scoring numbers. If he does that, I could see him hitting 85 to 90 points, with maybe 40 goals. Without such linemates however, I think 75-80 pts and 35 goals is a more realistic projection/average/etc.

    He's Rick Nash 2.0.
Just look at Nash's career stats and expect somewhere around the same production (providing he can stay healthy).
I personally love the guy and a lot of the pieces surrounding him in Dallas.

I discovered Benn because of this site. I drafted him last year in the very last round. No one had really heard of him in my pool. Now I have him this year of course and I'm really excited to see what he can do.....once the guy gets signed......but this is now ridiculous. Just play some freakin hockey Jamie.

70pts is a given, as you stated. I see a PPG player who will hit the mid 80s. If he was paired with a more dynamic player, I think he'd hit 90.

benn will probably not have the quality of offensive wingers that he could have this year in dallas again for a while. the stars have a numbr of quality wingers down in texas, but none project to have an offenisve game like whitney and jagr. at least eriksson is there and they have played well together in the past. either way, it probably doesn't matter that much as the guy showed last year that he could put up points even with ott and burish as his wingers...

Benn could have really used this year with Whitney and Jagr to polish his game.
I think they could show him what it's like to play at another level and the dedication it takes.
His free choice to hold out but I think it will hinder his development.

Agreed.... I am big on Benn and still believe that he has that 90+ potential, but he is missing out on a lot of mentoring from jagr and whitney. Look what Jagr did to elevate Giroux game... I was hoping for the same with Benn this yr.... I still think he gets to the heights I believe he is capable of, but its killing me to see him miss out on quality time with a mentor like jagr.

Wow guys, thanks for so many responses. The other GM now wants to look into making the deal bigger (ugh, I offered Voracek and Kreider, just wanted to get it done haha) but reading this has definitely made it clear I need to pursue the deal.
