they arent trading him and he cant play without a contract
Does anyone have an idea what happens if Subban and Mon can't agree on a new deal at all? Will he just sit out? Will he be traded? Any projections/predictions? Thanks!

Personally I think PK is being a bit of a little bitch since the word is that he's seeking around 6mil for 5 years which is a little steep. I think he needs to show a little more on the ice before he commands that kind of money. If he was smart he would negotiate a shorter and cheaper (what they call 'bridge' contracts) deal where he makes $4-5mil for 2-3 years. Its the best case scenario for both sides, he gets to continue to improve and prove his value to the franchise and earn that big deal and if either side doesn't like the way things are going no one is locked into a long term deal. He'll make serious bank in a few years if his development continues on the current path and he's already a fan favorite. Personally I think his agent is a douchebag and (as douchey agents are wont to do) is whispering nonsense in his ear.
But to answer your question he's an RFA so he could theoretically get an offer from another team which the Habs would have the option to match. If they chose not to, and he got the kinda money he is seeking the other team would need to give up a 1st, 2nd nd 3rd round pick in compensation. Its also considered a bit of a dick move to pull that kinda thing unless the player is adamantly against signing with his current team though so you burn some bridges as a GM when you do that.
I can hear you... sounds like Dustin Penner and the Oilers MkII... Thanks for the insight!

Six years, $30m for Edler certainly can't help PK's cause.
Really like the guy and his energy, charisma, etc...but he needs to get a deal done and get on the ice. Take 3m/yr for two years or $4m/yr for two years..and then earn the big, longterm contract.
This is nuts.
I kinda DO wonder if he's hoping another team comes up with an offer sheet and forces the issue.
Subban should be getting what Del Zotto (alo represented by Don Meehan) got. Thinking that he deserves Doughty or Karlsson money, is just dumb.
I'm keeping him benched until hopefully he gets back on the ice. I think he's worth holding out on. I agree that he doesn't deserve the 6 million but if they settle this, he'll be worth having on your team. But that's just me. We'll see how this plays out.
