as far as i know player needs to be ir in nhl to get ir in yahoo
they might give him NA status not sure though
I'm naive to this so is it the same thing? Only reason I'm asking is for Yahoo purposes, cause I want to know if non-roster players get IR status on Yahoo. Anybody know?
We get one of these - Don't waste it.

Players do get NA status but they still take up a roster spot and can not be placed on IR. A non-active player in Yahoo is simply a waste of a roster spot
Without me, it's only "aweso".
lucifer is right, a player has to be on his NHL teams IR list to be placed on the Yahoo IR list.

Yes, only IR players get IR status.
A guy that is demoted to the minors, or doesn't have a contract will just show up as NA.
NA players are like regular "active" players... they are either on your roster or bench.
I was asking because reporters are saying Jake Gardiner will be put as a non-roster player with his concussion. I've never heard of this, usually it's IR or they're just day to day.

Haven't heard of this before either. Either way, it has no impact how they list him unless it's on IR in which case it is good for you.

i read this morning that briere will be given the same treatment
here is relevant portion of prior cba16.11 (a) For any other Player who fails the Club's initial physical examination in any League Year, or is injured, ill or disabled while not on the Club's Active Roster, he shall not be eligible for, and may not be placed on, Injured Reserve, but instead shall be eligible to be, and may be designated as, Injured Non- Roster.
If it is LTIR then he would be placed on the IR list for Yahoo as well. Marc Savard and Chris Pronger are both still there.

different rules regarding certain things for INR as opposed to IR(c) Players on the Injured Reserve List may attend team meetings, travel with the Club (at the Club's option) and participate in practice sessions with other Players on the Club's Active Roster. Players on Injured Reserve are prohibited from appearing in NHL Games, participating in pre-game warm-ups with their Clubs, or dressing in game uniforms on NHL Game days. Players on Injured Reserve and Injured Non-Roster shall have access to the Club's primary training and medical facilities during regular business hours provided, however, that the Club may restrict such Players' access during periods when Players on the Club's Active Roster are expected to be present at such primary training and medical facilities (e.g. pre-game skates, practices, games, medical and physical treatments for other Players) and within a reasonable period of time before and after such time periods.
