Default Some thoughts on my draft?

Hi everyone, I'm new to Dobber^^

Just drafted today and drafted 12 out of 14 position and our league settings have 11 categorie. They are, Goals (G), Assists (A), Plus/Minus (+/-), Penalty Minutes (PIM), Powerplay Points (PPP), Shorthanded Points (SHP), Shots on Goal (SOG), Blocks (BLK) and Wins (W), Goals Against Average (GAA), Shutouts (SHO)

    1. Zach Parise (Min - LW)
    2. James Neal (Pit - LW,RW)
    3. Mike Smith (Pho - G)
    4. Martin St. Louis (TB - RW)
    5. Ryan Getzlaf (Anh - C)
    6. Joe Pavelski (SJ - C,RW)
    7. Jonas Hiller (Anh - G)
    8. Duncan Keith (Chi - D)
    9. Patrik Elias (NJ - C,LW)
    10. Jack Johnson (Cls - D)
    11. Cody Hodgson (Buf - C,RW)
    12. Sergei Gonchar (Ott - D)
    13. Andy McDonald (StL - C,LW)
    14. Jose Theodore (Fla - G)
    15. Martin Havlat (SJ - RW)
    16. Chris Stewart (StL - RW)
    17. Justin Faulk (Car - D)

Doesn't look too bad I think or is it worse than I thought?

    TIA

    It's a bad team.
You only have three goaltending categories W/GAA/SHO and you took three of the worst goaltenders for these.

Phoenix - team is not that good, not good for W/GAA/SHO
Anaheim - team is not that good, not good for W/GAA/SHO
Florida - team is not that good, not good for W/GAA/SHO
These are three teams with bad defenses and pretty sub-par defensive forwards.
PHX & FLA both overperformed last year, I don't think it happens again.

With Blocks as a category, you simply can't go drafting guys like Gonchar & Faulk who probably won't play any SH time. ALL of your D have to be decent in Blocks, like 150+ in that category.

Your offense will have to carry you and after your top four, there is significant drop-off.

    I think this is a bottom 3 team in a 14-team league.

    Welcome to the boards!!!

I have a feeling Mike Smith will have another career year, just a feeling!

WOW seriously? I thought it was pretty decent for some reason...Are there anyone I should try selling high on my team before the season starts or one or two players I should target a trade for?

I guess I really need to rebuild my team, what should I do? I guess theirs probably no way for me to win the league now eh?

I'm guessing since its a 14 team league, theirs no one on the WW that is an upgrade?

Thanks for the help and welcome message!

Just a suggestion - you should also always specify the type of league when asking for advice. Is this a H2H or Roto league? It could make a difference in evaluation.

    Good luck.

Did you win with that exact roster? Otherwise, I don't think anyone "proved anyone wrong" (both ways). This site is a great source of fantasy hockey information, and by all accounts the roster above doesn't really look like anything special.

    In any event congrats

Well - you won't be getting any more help from me if you are going to really rub this in my face.

Mike Smith started the season as the #9 ranked Yahoo goalie.
He finished as the #17 goalie (8 spots worse than where you drafted him).
He finished as the 104th rated overall player, not good considering you drafted him 3rd round.

Jonas Hiller started the season as the #23 ranked Yahoo goalie.
He finished as the #23 ranked Yahoo goalie (on par with where you drafted him).

Jose Theodore started the season as the #31 ranked Yahoo goalie.
He finished as the 6th worst fantasy goalie.

I bet if I totaled up your drafted team stats, you'd be somewhere near the bottom 3 teams in a 14-team league.
Your top two picks, Parise (12) & Neal (17), finished as the 33rd & 35th best Yahoo! fantasy players. Is that impressive?
I didn't say you wouldn't win your league... I said that your (drafted) team looked like a bottom 3 team in your league.
Smith/Hiller/Theodore combined for 34 wins, about a 2.50GAA and about a .911 SV%... which isn't very impressive for a 3-goalie-group - which is what I addressed as your biggest weakness.

If you won your league, you did it by making some good moves during the season and I'd bet your end-of-season roster looks very dissimilar from your drafted team.

Congrats on your league, but unless you finished the season with the exact team you drafted... you really shouldn't go rubbing this one on me.
(In fact, if your team is drastically changed from your drafted team, well, maybe you should be thanking me.)

    Now I'm curious.

Please post the roster of your winning team.

I want to see if you really did "move like jagr" or you "traded like a pengwin"

Ditto. I think if you're going to gloat about not needing the help of this forum, then I think you should disclose your championship-winning roster.

The team you drafted wasn't very good, I'm curious to see how you pulled this one off.

Finished #1 overall regular season and won during playoffs!

From a quick count, it seemed like the only difference is Cody Franson, Ben Bishop, Devin Setoguchi and Paul Stastny. One change I would like to add is, I picked up Brian Elliott and dropped Bishop at the end of regular season.

Yes - I'd like to see a screenshot of your category W-L.

All three of your goalie categories, your BLK, and your PIM are going to be bottom half of the league for sure.
That sub-standard stats in 5/11 categories.

Hard to pull off 1st overall with five sub-par categories.
