Default 2014 Olympics- Team Canada Goalies

I was reminded today that the 2014 Olympics are only a year away and a short list of potential team members will probably be made by the end of this compressed season. As a Canadian hockey fan I'm slightly concerned when I consider our options for goal. Reviewing the list right now I'd say 3 of Luongo, Fleury, Price and Ward make the team with Mike Smith and Holtby as dark horses.

I wouldn't feel overly confident starting anyone of these guys especially since the Americans (Quick, Miller, Schneider, Thomas(?)) Swedes (Lundqvist) and Finns (Rinne, Rask) all have at least 1 guy superior to any of these (in my mind).

I know its early but I hope at least one (ideally 2) of these guys can have a great year that says "I'm your guy". How does everyone see Canada's goaltending shaping up for 2014 Sochi?

Unless Luongo gets on as a starter and proves he still has it I think it will be Price as starter and MAF and Ward backups

    Agreed on Price and MAF.
It's a bit of a concern, but it's not terribly different than the last Olympics. Canada didn't win because of the goaltending, but Lou ended up being good enough. I might argue with the addition of guys like Stamkos, Giroux, JT, and Eberle to the established core of Crosby, Toews, etc... that the 2014 team might be even better than the last. The line combos are going to be a ton of fun to play with.

I think it's Price or Ward starting with MAF as the 3rd option. I honestly see Price as the starter due to his mentality alone

marty's just one more playoff run away from being the best canadian in the two seasons leading up the olympics... i think it's absolutely crazy if he's not there at least as an insurance policy, and as a leader, not to mention the fact that he can still clearly play at that level. marty/maf/price. luongo can get back on the team pretty if he can manage to play good regular season hockey though

I think it's Price's time to shine on the olympic stage.

I don't care about Lu's current position - Team Canada won a gold medal with him in net. If Yzerman is the GM, you can bet he holds this highly.

Agreed, if they're still playing at a quality level come late 2013, Lou and Brodeur will be there for sure.

Have to say, more likely that Brodeur is there than Luongo.

Price is the only definite at this point.

    Cheers

Easily Price's job to lose. He's crazy good.
