Default Would Neal improve my keepers?

    Team in sig.
Declaring keepers on draft day, Jan 19th.
Neal's owner put him on the block. He's seeking a pick.
Another owner offered me a pick for one of my keepers to improve his top 6.
I'm keeping Malkin and Stamkos for sure and I don't think he's interested in Price.
My idea here is to try to get Neal for about the same pick that I would get trading one of my players.
Do you think I improve my keepers in getting Neal?
Wich one of my keepers should I try to shop first? Ryan? Doughty? Yandle?
Also, I can trade my player to get an extra pick and keep Subban without trading for Neal.
Or give a pick for Neal and drop a guy losing him for nothing (not sold on that one...).
    Thank you

EDIT: new details in the situation, see post below

If you can get Neal that would definaletly improve your team. I would try trading Ryan and Goligoski to begin with and go from there.

I think Neal would be a massive upgrade over Yandle as your keeper.

This trade depends on BOTH picks in play: the one you give up AND the one you get back.

This is a 9F/4D/1G league where you keep 6.
So, you've got 14 players that are critical.

This is a 2-for-2 trade... and you have to look at it that way:

    You get:
James Neal + What Round Return PickB? (and what could you get)

    You could've kept:
Keith Yandle + What Round PickA does he want? (and what could you get)

    1. You have to find out the "round" of both picks.
    2. You have to figure out which D you'd get with your late pickB & add that to Neal's pts.
    3. You have to figure out which F you could have got with your pickA & add that to Yandle's pts.

    Which side comes out higher?

    It's a 2-for-2 trade where it is F&D for F&D.
    Analyze it that way.
(Also - there is "future" value to the better keeper, Neal, but that weighting depends on how you see your team into the future).

Lots of talk lately for Neal between his owner and me.
    I can't give him a pick because I can't find a taker for Ryan.
Now, he's willing to take picks upgrade instead. I like that better.
He wants at least my 3rd round pick (28th).
    My proposition:
    My 3rd+6th+10th+15th
    His 4th+7th+12th+17th
And then, I'm losing Ryan for nothing...
I want to keep both Doughty and Yandle. No way they can slip to me in the draft. Maybe Ryan (but I doubt).
    Good or bad deal?
Oh, and I traded Subban for a 17th (last) round pick today. Duchene was traded for a 17th yesterday fixing the market REALLY low.

    He countered with:

    My 3rd (#28) + 17th (#196)
    for
    His 7th (#81) + 14th (#160) + Neal.

    What do you think?
Is Neal worth the downgrade? 3rd to 7th seems a big gap.
It's his final offer, and I believe him. He lowered greatly his initial demands.
    He's the 3-time-in-a-row champ.
I don't want to give him another shot at the title, but I want to improve my team too...
I need your feedback on this one!

LeTrefle, can you give us an idea of who normally goes in the 3rd round in your drafts? Like what happened in the 3rd round last season? At a glance it seems like an OK deal for you because look who Neal has to play with! But you don't keep many players so its tough to figure out who is out there in the draft

OK so I'm guessing the 7th round would have guys like Erat, Clarkson, Ryder etc right? (I might be a little off but i'm probably close)

    so the trade be

My Pleckanec + late pick (17th is not going to matter much)
    for
His Erat + Neal + late pick (17th is not going to matter much)

I'd be all over that, I think Neal will have another great year

EDIT - I just realized you need to drop someone to make room for Neal...still a good deal I think, as Neal improves your keepers anyway. I'd drop Ryan probably, (tho I agree Yandle and Doughty would be considered next too) but maybe you can deal him for a pick?

    Right on with Erat (#79).
But don't forget that I would have to drop Ryan.
So the trade is more like
    My Ryan + Plekanec
    vs
    His Neal + Erat

    Still all over that?

yup, see my post, I edited it once I realized that

Its not quite as sexy as I was thinking initially but yes Neal is an upgrade on Ryan. And if you can trade Ryan for anything at all that only makes it better for you right? not much time tho

I'm still in talks to trade Ryan.
    Not much time, but still...
