thats the first thought that came to my mind. ownership wants playoffs.

STUPID move though. burke was handed this team with nothing, he did a great job restocking the cupboards. should have given him one more offseason especially since this ufa crop would be much better

    Wow this thread exploded.

Shocking news, I wonder who the front runner is to replace him. I'm guessing Nonis?

The timing is the weirdest thing... why now when they could have done this in the summer?

Maybe Burke is taking Bettman's job.

Agreed! I'm floored as well and yeah, he did do a lot of good things in Toronto. Can't wait to find out why. I guess this another couple of steps back for the franchise. Just what they didn't need. By the way, Kessel did finish 6th in league scoring last year. Not too shabby. When was the last time a Leaf finished that high?

First thought that crossed my mind haha, not likely but crazier things have happened.

Corporate suits don't pay attention but noticed that the Leafs have 0 wins. Time for a change I guess...

My guess its CBA related and not hockey related. Burke represented the Leafs, ownership probably unhappy with either the result or something that happened during negotiations.

Timming is Horrible but as a DIE HARD LEAF fan I'm very excited over the news. He has done a horrible job as GM almost laughable if looked at by any intelligent person without being emotional. I also think LOU has something to do with it...

One thing is for sure, if history has shown us anything it's that if it was done on bad terms, Burke will let us know about it.

If Burke refused to give in on trading for Luongo because of his contract (as he has expressed negativity about) and stood his ground resulting in being fired, then he gets a lot of respect from me. Still think he's a horrid GM but sticking to your pinciples on something is commendable (if true)
