    Default Yakupov vs Galchenyuk

    Hi everyone,

Looking for a little bit of guidance. I have the first overall pick in my keeper league. After winning the lottery - I thought 100% I would go with Yakupov despite being a Habs fan. However, Galchenyuks season so far has raised some doubts in my mind so I'm starting this poll to get a sense for my level of homerism in considering Galchenyuk.

If required, please also consider my current roster which has me well-positioned to compete for the championship this year: Lundqvist, C Ward, C Perry, Semin, E Staal, Skinner, Purcell, Havlat, Giordano, Visnovsky (pending).
I also have JVR, B Connolly, Tarasenko, Nyquist, C Smith, Voynov and Gormley on my farm team - JVR, Nyquist, SMith and Voynov are all coming of.

    Cheers

Welcome to the boards. To answer your question, look at all the first overall drafted forwards in the last 10 years and compare them to the next two forwards taken after them. There's usually a good drop in talent. Galchenyuk wasn't taken number one for a reason.

If youre a die hard Habs fan, why not draft Gally.

The point of these pools is to have fun, the money is secondary.

A very close friend of mine holds the second - I've tried to see if I can get him to bite but he's content to sit there and take whoever I don't.

If you are not sold on Yakupov, then trade the 1st overall for the 2nd overall and get a little something more in the deal..

Personally I would draft Yakupov and I would be very excited to have him..

Must stink to have to decide, but I dont know what that feels like since I took them 1-2 in my most recent draft.

Personally, I would rather have Yak, because I want to have a piece of that developing offensive monster brewing up in Edmonton and all signs seem to indicate that Nail is the Real Deal.

Still, since you are a Habs fan and the #2 wont bite on a trade, no one should pass judgement if you went with Gali. If he had been healthy, it is possible that he could have been selected #1 instead. He appears fully recoved and is abusing the OHL right now. Mtl hasnt had someone with his pure offensive skills in quite some time so lets hope he piles the points up with the big club when he gets his chance.

I would rather the Habs let him get a full season of health under him and let him come to camp hungry for a spot in the top six next year. As a top line center, his overall offensive upside might not be that far behind Yakupov anyway. Take whoever you will have the most fun rooting, since both are as close to sure things as there is right now.
