So were thinking that Wheeler will outperform Ryan or at least very close to?

gagner/stew for kovi i have no problem with. Wheeler has never played on top line until last year and he showed it, so im high on him right now, but I've always pegged Ryan for a 70 pt guy..

Thanks for the replies so far!

Kovalchuk and Wheeler for me. Even in a points only where you won't get the huge advantage from Kovie's SOG, I'd still take these two.

So nobody is pegging Stewart or Gagner to come out with 60 pt efforts i guess..Not that there is much reason to think they would besides being contract years.

B.Ryan showed 80 pts once, but he may be a little dependant on his linemates, on a defensive team to boot.

Backes led the Blues with 54 points last season. Stewart was down the list in terms of ice time so he'd need to be one of the highest to even approach those numbers. I would peg Stewart at 40 until his situation improves.

Gagner - maybe he'll break out especially given the improving offense but I would consider all things going well for him. He's played five seasons of 40-49 points, so hoping for 60 suddenly might be a bit ambitious. 50+ - more realistic.

Ryan's highest total is 71 points, not 80. Unless he gets top PP time (Selanne retiring), he's output will be limited.

There's no way that those three are close enough of an offer to get Kovalchuk and Wheeler. Also given Wheeler's breakout last season, his value is much higher now, is hitting his prime and will have ample opportunity to build on last season. No guarantees he will, but I wouldn't be surprised if he outpointed Ryan again.

Oh and in a 3 for 2 offer, you have to consider the player being dropped as well.

I think you should be looking at it as Kovalchuk vs. Ryan and Gagner/Stewart, and the answer to that would and should be Kovalchuk. Add on the fact that Wheeler is a better option than either one of Gagner and Stewart, the answer becomes even more of a no brainer.

Kovalchuk is an elite player and by far the best in the deal, Ryan may be the second best player, but you are getting the best, along with the third best player in the deal. Huge win for Kovalchuk and Wheeler.
