Red Wings D Carlo Colaiacovo hurt shoulder during Spengler Cup. Expected 2-3 weeks, but Wings will know more after they've looked at him.

Better chances for Smith to get a roster spot right from the start. Actually now Smith should be guaranteed top-6 D-man to start the season, right?

Was he really a lock over Kindl for the 6th spot to start with? I would think that would have been decided on the camp and neither would been handed anything before it. Now with this injury they'll both be getting their chances.

Yes. Kindl has been bad and Babcock hasn't held back in criticizing him. Smith was better than Kindl in his stint last year. A LOT better.

Smith is making the team regardless of Colaiacovo.

I heard it was caused by a swift breeze that caught him as he was stepping off the team bus.

    and he's hurt again...

Carlo Colaiacovo will be out three to four weeks after sustaining a shoulder injury on Monday night.
According to Bob Duff, no surgery is required. The Red Wings signed Colaiacovo before the lockout, as they were looking for some insurance on the blueline. He was earning solid ice time in his first two contests before the injury. Fantasy owners should send him to the waiver wires and monitor his progress when he returns.

This really shouldnt be a shocker. Its more just a matter of time before it happens again.

That being said, the Wings D are dropping like flies. I wonder if anyone has given Nick Lidstrom a call and see what he's up to these days?
