Default Parise + vs Semin +

I got this trade offer and need some thoughts/opinions. It is for the team in signature.

    My: Parise, Grigorenko, S. Elliot
    for
    His: Semin and Faulk

Basics of the league protect 12 players per season (each player max 4 years). Positions are weighted equally (12 F = 6 D = 2 G), so defense and goaltending are really important.

I figure I need some help on the back end and have a surplus of good prospects.

    Thoughts?

I don't make this deal. I keep Parise and Grigs. I would take a look at a separate deal maybe involving some prosepcts for an upgrade at D. But this particular deal I'd not make. Love Parise and Grigs side much more than Semin and Faulk and not to mention Elliot is a nice option already.

Not sure I would make this deal. I'm assuming you get to keep your prospects, and I'm quite high on Grigorenko, so losing him in this deal isn't something I would enjoy.

I like Parise over Semin. It doesn't look like you would be keeping Faulk, thus I don't think he makes enough of a difference to swap Parise for Semin, and lose a top notch prospect in Grigorenko, and a solid D prospect in Elliott.

For you I think you have to look at it, as how well you think Semin can do in Carolina, and if you believe he will be the Semin of old in Carolina, than go for it, if not I'd stick with Parise.

    Thanks for the replies.

If it matters, keeping prospects are part of the 12 we protect.

i am having trouble understanding how this will help you.

    parise > semin
elliot = faukk (personally, i prefer elliot - but i own him)
    grigorenko > nobody

if you need a D upgrade, you're not getting it and giving up the best player

There's no reason for you to make this deal as you lose on all fronts.

Parise is the best player by far in this one.

Strongly advise trading a bonadie 1st line player for a guy with questionable work ethic and who could flee for the KHL any given summer. Just facts. Give me Parise.

This deal doesn't help you at all. If this is the most important part then there's no reason for Parise (or any other good forward) to be in there. Keep it simple and focused.

If it matters, keeping prospects are part of the 12 we protect.
Wouldn't this significantly devalue prospects in your league? How many prospects usually get kept then?

ABSOLUTELY! That is why I was considering the deal.

1# - Parise is obviously a step down from Semin

2# - However, Faulk is a lock for top ice time in Carolina while Elliot and Grigorenko may/will see limited ice time this season. Elliot and Grigorenko probably won't make my protection list for next season.

    1. You mean step up.

    2. But potentially gaining with Faulk is not enough to offset the significant drop at forward. There's no guarantee Faulk will have a great season so you are putting a lot of risk in a young guy and an inconsistent Semin. I'd want an elite D coming back if parting with Parise.

I wouldn't have considered the deal at all, actually.
