    Default Keep Ryan or Shattenkirk?

Hey guys for team/league in sig who would you rather keep? It gets tricky as Time on Ice count only for Dmen so they receive a bump in value compared to most leagues. So far my keepers are:
    Ovechkin
    Stamkos
    P. Kane
    D. Clarkson (High demand in our league due to the cats - using as trade bait)
    RNH

    Weber
    Phaneuf

    Rask

Just deciding on my final spot and have narrowed it down to the previously mentioned two. I have a fairly high pick in the draft so keeping some hope that I can get whoever I drop back but want to be safe.

    Thanks all
    13 team Roto keeper league 12 F, 6D, 2G, G,A,+/-, PIMS, Hits, TOI(D), GAA, SV%, (Forwards are forwards, no distinction between L,R,C)

    F) Ovechkin, Stamkos, Kunitz, Parise, Byfuglien, Backstrom, Little, Gaudreau, Hudler, Brassard, Girgensons, Nelson
    D) S. Weber, Phaneuf, Subban, Carlson, Josi, Vatanen
    G) Rask, Jones

I voted Ryan. He's a pretty good asset with PIMs (50-60) and Hits (over 100) plus all the offensive stats.

In my mind, TOI is a very deep category as a lot of D-men play over 20-21 minutes a game. Plus, since you said you had a very high pick in the draft, I believe Shattenkirk should still be there (though obviously it depends on who else is available) since he's not a very sexy name.

I'd agree with this, although Shattenkirk might be a sexier name than niconasr thinks. But if you have a high pick, he definitely should be available. And if he's not, Enstrom isn't a bad option.

Plus, and I know this is subjective, I still think there's plenty left for Ryan to prove (ie-finally getting top PP time when Selanne retires, maybe a trade to a team that uses him more, maybe becoming the MAN in anaheim if/when Getzlaf and Perry move along).

Shattenkirk, to me, won't put up much better than what he did last year. And that's not a slight on him. Maybe his points and plus/minus go up a little bit. But I just don't see a bigtime jump for him

    13 teams x 12F = 156F in play.
    13 teams x 6D = 78D in play.

Shattenkirk finished 47th among D in TOI. (below the average rostered D)
Shattenkirk finished 112th among D in Hits. (outside of the average rostered D)

When a player is sub-par (or out-of-range) on 2/6 cats, you have to question their value in the league a bit.

I would bet Brent Seabrook & Dan Girardi are more valuable in this pool than Shattenkirk.
Get your points from your forwards, get the Hits/TOI from rugged D-men.

    I'd go Ryan.

    Great analysis here, I agree.

I would defiantly keep Ryan over Shattenkirk. More times than not I'd take the forward over a D. I think it's easier to replace what Shattenkirk brings, than it would be to replace Ryan.

I didn't do any detailed calc to see each player's value but I can't imagine any reasonably structured league in which Shattenkirk is more valuable than Ryan.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

You have to keep Ryan here in my opinion, he's far too talented and you could regret keeping a mid tier dman over a top tier forward, especially if that ducks PP re-ignites.

In that format, Ryan for sure.

Shatty is only decent in points-only.
